Most of the teens I have seen in Japan have been in school groups, wearing identical clothing and numbered bibs, and nary a cool helmet to be seen.

I also wear a helmet, but if fashion is your primary concern when you decide to wear a helmet, then I think you are missing the point. Also, I really don't think that being stylish on the slopes in Japan is that important, especially when you see plenty of Japanese wearing 20 year old one piece ski suits, that was the part that I was laughing about most.

With the Black Edition you are able to set it to photo + video mode, so you can take a photo every half a second if you want, and still record HD video (though not at the highest speed settings)

How did you find the car / driving on the snow and ice? I am pretty keen on a similar sort of trip, but my better half is not keen on hiring a car in Japan due partly to the snow and partly to navigating. Thanks for an awesome trip report
