  1. LOL, don't worry Kumapix, I'm always taking it easy. I think it's safe to say that we both agree that it's possible to send board bags that are over 160cms domestically. You should read my post more clearly man. I said that I think the measurements are only guidelines and not rules, so no, I don't think that takkyubin will just 'bend the rules each time' as you say. That was the point I was making. I think it's probably better to actually talk to someone who works for one of the takkyubin companies instead of just checking their website (like I already went over the issue that the web
  2. Kumapix, have you contributed anything to this thread? Nah, didn't think so. Where is all this negativity coming from? I was just posting here to help out a mate. BTW, you are dead wrong about no restrictions for domestic takkyubin. Here is the link for domestic service in English and in Japanese (you'll have to type in the locations to get this one to work). Please notice that it clearly states 3 sides totalling 160cms. For International delivery in Japanese and in English you'll notice that it gives exactly the same calculation of 3 sides totalling 160cms. As I said befor
  3. Andy, thinking about a mid march trip as it looks like the season here isn't going to offer too much in the way of good snow from here on out. Kumapix, the point that both xilr8 and I were trying to get across is that there is a 160cm restriction for domestic shipping (as well as international shipping), which seems to be a guideline and not a rule as we both got away with shipping more. That's why I encouraged AB to give them a call and see what he can work out! No harm in trying, right?
  4. AndyB, I stayed at the Bamboo lodge the same time as you. Sent you that facebook message about the 3 delivery services... Ring any bells?
  5. xilr8, sounds like we almost have the same quiver. I shipped a 160cm and a 158cm in a 165cm bag that was stuffed with all my other gear and kuroneko also never batted an eyelid for me! What a great service that is!
  6. AndyB, call up the kuroneko guy and have him swing by to measure the bag you are sending. I know this sounds redundant if your bag is bigger but I sent my stuff from Shizuoka to Niseko in Dec/Jan and was sure that my stuff would break the 160cm mark (my bag alone is 165cm in length). There was no problems at all and no extra charge. Of course, things will be different for international deliveries but it's worth a try anyway as the dude will come to your place and do the measurements for free... Anyway, isn't $700NZ like Y2000 by now? BTW, you had much of a chance to ride that fish o
  7. I say go to Hokkaido. In my experience, when we have the kind of the season we are having in Nagano/Niigata area things tend to end quickly here. I'm actually considering a trip to Niseko mid-March myself after what I witnessed at a few of my regular resorts (in Niigata) last weekend. Unless there are some really epic snowfalls soon (highly doubtful) I won't be heading back to Niigata this season. Don't get me wrong, I've been lucky with some really great conditions but I have the luxury of being able to make day trips and get random days off when we are blessed with snow. Good
  8. MG, I thought so too. Looks a little like the top bat of the 'batman sign' that Myoko slightly resembles...
  9. awesome stuff as always! i brought my dslr to the hill the other week but have been too lazy to et the pics up. maybe after the weekend i'll get around to posting them!
  10. Glad to hear that is hasn't happened to too many people. Guess the moral is that no matter where you go it's better to be safe than sorry!
  11. NIK22, Suginohara is a great place for boarding but I also feel that way about Akakura Kanko. It's a toss up for me because both have some pretty fun and not so dangerous tree runs (I find Suginohara is a little busier than Akakan and lunch isn't as good). Unfortuantely, the weekend of Feb28 - Mar1 one of the better runs will be closed at Akakan for some kind of competition. That would mean that Suginohara will probably be busier than it usually would otherwise.
  12. Fujiten by train is only accessible from Kawaguchi-eki (station) which means you have to get to Matsumoto or Tokyo first, this would be a really bad option. C et L, are you driving or taking the train? By train you will have a really hard time finding anyway to get a ski in if you have only one day to travel between Nagoya and Tokyo. The shinkansen (bullet train) between Nagoya and Tokyo runs through Shizuoka (where I live) and the only place to ski locally here isn't worth getting off the train for. We don't have winter here in Shizuoka and it has only ever snowed 1 time in the 5 years th
  13. nagoid, don't know about the beer vending machines. in my town no id is required. but for smokes you need a taspo card to buy from vending machines... if you don't have a card it's always possible to buy in 7-11 with no id!
  14. Good call on the leg presses! I've been doing the same for a few seasons now and its a miracle worker (that and riding my bicycle 20kms a day!!) I find that isometric exercise is actually better for boarding then going crazy on weights.
  15. By the way... did anyone notice that Seki Onsen got 100cms of snow in the last 24 hours!? WTF! Why am I at work!
  16. Go to Uncle Steve's Mexican restaurant. Just ask around for directions. Have a couple of XXs (Dos Equis) for me! I also recommend anything on the menu! Great food!!
  17. Are you sure you arrive at Narita? Domestic is usually Haneda... Do a little search for a thread from a few days ago about travelling between Narita and Hakuba. I wrote down estimated times and costs.
  18. Nowhere in Myoko uses electronic passes. Judging by how wet the passes can be at the end of the day I'd say they are paper, not plastic.
  19. Pay the extra for good beer! It's almost impossible for me to even get out of bed after drinking happoshu (or that other vile third category beer like beverage!!) nevermind getting to the top of the mountain.
