  1. Three or so weeks in Hoth swimming in powder Either basing at asahikawa and hitting up mainly Kamui, or basing at furano. It makes a change from last years epic JR mission (2 days hamamatsu, 1 week hakuba (mainly spent drunk and hungover), 2 days nozawa, 2 days zao, 4 days niseko, and 2 days tokyo). Might as well add: 3 or 4 days on trains. Also probably gonna try and make it to High1 this year (korea) instead of muju. Aiming for around 25ish days, nothing too fancy, but hopefully basing at one place might mean i spend the brunt of it riding and not knackered from riding trains.
  2. i dunno about nozawa but hakuba alps has a 'table tennis' (ping pong is for 4 year olds) table. As for nozawa, stayed at the apple inn, and the people there were soooooooooooooooooo lovely i just had to mention it Also amazingly clean and comfortable for what is in the end pretty darned cheap! Great value for money.
  3. I know for a fact (ive been scouring the net) that theres an 8 day ticket where 2 days can be spent at a different resort (its between kamui, furano and Tomamu and the 6 days are where you base yourself and the other two are any of the other two places). Theres also a 7 day pass, but its just one day at another resort. Kinda like the rusutsu/niseko one i saw last year. Either way, i sent off an email to the people at the site, and maybe they can give a definitive answer on the season pass.
  4. incidentally, whats the off piste policy at furano like? Most of the net say its pretty much enforced, but was trawling through threads on here, (why yes, i did actually try and find the info before i posted ), and it seems that people are suggesting that within the last year theres been a bit of a policy change and although its not official or anything, rope ducking is tolerated? Is that it?
  5. if thats true, thats pretty much made my mind up. Dont suppose you have a link? Ive tried trawling through every english variant of furano season pass and can't find anything (nor anything on the price of this years season pass). I guess they still aint started, but thinking it might be on a japanese site somewhere.
  6. nah, im in korea now Plus i wants hoth pow, not possibly maybe 1 dump every two or three weeks if im lucky in the middle of peak season the way things have been going in nagano the last three years pow.
  7. not for much longer. Probably being sold to thehouse on september 22nd after burton froze their assets and nudged them into chapter 11. check this out: http://easyloungin.com/forum/topic.php?id=4930&page=23 About the 8th post down a guy called esq lays out all the stuff thats been happening.
  8. not quite the flagship, but just grabbed the charlie slasher im 160, pushing to 150 by time season rolls around and plan to play in trees more than hiking. But really wanted this one (because im obviously an adolescent), but all out of 158s. Same deck as slasher So now i own: Capita Sierrascope (indoorFK) Capita Quiver Killer Capita Charlie Slasher Union Forces oh, and an artec 2.3 with ride deltas, but i doubt ill be using that any time again. I think i drank the kool aid
  9. anyone seen any central hokkaido (asahikawa area) multipass season passes? I think ive decided thats where im going this year
  10. Yeah, the castle was put in so i could make some kind of obscure reference to finnegans wake. So this year and based entirely off the strength of this one clip: I bought myself a pow stick and decided im going to deepest darkest Hoth. But i dont know anything about it. I dont suppose you guys would be so kind as to furnish me with some details. I guess first: good resorts in and around the area worth hitting up? Since im doing it all public transport it'll likely need to be on a decent network (rail from asahikawa is a bonus). Second, where to base myself?
  11. one of the guys found it on another site. It was the JTB pass. I swear the 2008/09 season pass was way better, so it might be worse this season. Still, when it comes out ill keep an eye. http://www.jtb.co.jp/ski/season/
  12. nah, it was maybe a year or two ago i read it. (though the photos in spooks report are top notch and i want to steal them all - ill probably link that one in too, it might also offset my shiny happy 'myoko! yay!' review a bit )
  13. just looking to find out for some people the general hazards out there, and maybe some names for people that do tours and the like. I remember reading this awesome thread a year or two back that went through each of the zones detailing the best tracks, but ive gone through all 80 pages of search listings and cant seem to find it. The only thing i remember was something like this: "but if you do get caught in an avalanche here, probably your best bet is to try and jump that ridge". If the person that wrote it is around, can you link me that, because it was really thorough and w
  14. awesome stuff! i cant believe they dont ask for a deposit! Since id be an eejit not to and am planning a bit of a stay somewhere, all signed up and have until jan 31st to pay for it. Cheers man!
  15. yeah, i did that last year, but this year im not up for travelling. I just want to wake up, walk out the door and ride
  16. Anyone have info on the bulk passes or early bird ones yet. Still haven't made my mind up where i'm heading this year, but i remember a couple of years ago there being this wild pass that let you on about 40 slopes (including nozawa!!?!?? and suginohara) for something like 38,000yens. Does that still exist? Or am i too early even for an early bird? Also i swear ikenotaira used to have this super cheap early bird pass (12,000yen), so long as you got like 5 mates to sign up at the same time. I have a feeling as i say, im a bit early, but i'll be coming from korea for a month or so, so wa
  17. yeah. I need an 80 or an 83 otherwise im just gonna wash (and probably get myself killed when i try and pull and emergency stop but just slide through). I mean i COULD size down to a 75 but that limits me to freeestyle and no real carving However, i should point out ive only seen the videos, its not like i know anything at all about it outside of that.
  18. its basically the same as pulling a hockey stop on a snowboard believe it or not. Theres a moment in the first video where they show that very thing. A dudes flying down the hill, and a car pulls out on him, bam! stops. Basically your normal wheels are kind of lifted off yoru edges when you ride dead flat, but when you want to spin etc you throw down a bit of weight on your edges. It brings the wheels into action as edges. And its that pressure on the edge that brings you to a dead stop when you need it. As with everything, you stay in yoru limits and ride safely. In much the same way as someo
  19. oh you guys! wheres your pioneer spirit! If it was common sense, i wouldnt even get on snowboard,. I mean honestly, strap yourself onto a plank of wood on a near frictionless surface and bomb down a hill? Are you serious???? You could get hurt!!!
  20. haha! there speaks the voice of someone way too old to be doing stuff on tarmac. Get some pads man! Im definitely getting one of these. I think you can find them on yahoo auctions pretty cheap as well... well cheaper than retail. But of course youll be needing nihongo jouzu skills.
  21. its on the basement1 floor. Namba parks is HUGE so i advise you find the information desk first and theyll point you in the right direction.
  22. its basically the snowboard shop there. reece or something like that. They said "ah yeah, sorry but japanese people arent fat" hehe, i kid. The woman there was really sweet. I promise shell remember a fat gaijin asking about it on saturday (i ran all around osaka trying to find one dammit!)
  23. Want something to do in summer but think skating is best left to the kids, and longboarding is a bit... well, you know... Heres the explanation: And heres some cute videos of it in action: Theres none in korea to my annoyance, so had a couple of days in osaka this last weekedn and HUNTED the damn thing down. Found one in namba parks if youre interested, but its 75cm (too small for a fat ass like me). Seriously, these things look awesome.
  24. I looooooove ghost stories. One of my mates about 2 months ago was staying in her house (shes a jet in shizuoka), so shes on her own. She woke up in the middle of the night and looked across and saw some bloke just staring at her, she ran through him and vowed never to sleep there again! A week later she was back there convincing herself she just dreamed it. Ghost stories are great.
