The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Last day of February. Someone pointed out to me that there's just 1 month more left with all of Shiga Kogen areas open. Scary thought. Some areas are open until early May of course, but still...! Anyway. A good end to February with 10-20cm of fresh snow on the ground this morning around Shiga Kogen, just under 15cm outside my place. Nice and cold start to the day as well. Feels like it's clearing now, but more decent snow due tomorrow? Yes please. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Here's something novel to report. Blackout! It seems that large areas of northern Nagano have suffered a power cut this morning, including us here in Shiga Kogen. Sometime around 6am it started as far as I can tell, coming back sometime after 9am. Things seem to be getting back up as normal now but there'll likely be some late lifts this morning. I think they have to warm them up or something ;) Some sun out now as well and blue skies appearing from behind all the cloud. A moderate wind still blowing some of the snow around. Not that much snow lined up on the weekly forecast now, perhaps some snow showers here and there but more of a chance of seeing some sun I think. Fingers crossed it'll stay cold. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . There has been some snow since my last report. Yes, 5-10cm of fresh snow in places! I will note that in todays report, but please note that it was from the day before yesterday and that night. The clouds had cleared by yesterday early morning though leaving us with nice blue skies. It was sunny again this morning and quite mild, and there's was more cloud around. It has quickly got more cloudy this morning. We might even get a bit more snow. Tomorrow should be warm and sunny and perhaps more of that on Sunday too before we have rain forecast for Monday. Some news this morning about the opening of the section of Route 292 that connects Shiga Kogen with Gunma Prefecture. It gets buried in large amounts of snow during the winter months of course and earlier this month diggers were out there starting to carve out the road. They plan to have that section of road open from 10am on Friday 24th April, so a week from today. Once that is open, you can get to Shiga Kogen from the south via Kusatsu. Also makes for a great ride as well with impressive snow walls as well as beautiful scenery. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 8cm Snowfall at base this season 16cm Posted on Friday 4th December 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . I'm pleased to be able to report the first real decent snowfall of the season here in Shiga Kogen. It was raining until last night but we can soon forget that as there is now up to 10cm on the ground in places now and with snow still coming down now and - fingers crossed - for the rest of today and into tomorrow. There's clearer weather on the forecast beyond tomorrow so this isn't a prolonged storm by the looks. However if there's enough deposited today, we can expect more lifts to be operating come tomorrow. As things stand it's still just a small part of Kumanoyu open. I'll do my best to bring you any and all news in my report tomorrow morning. Resort areas that are currently open: The Kumanoyu area has its Number 2 pair lifts operating and the 600m Number 2 beginner course open. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's still snowing. Early on this morning it's rather dark looking clouds and snow coming down quite heavily here in the Maruike area of Shiga Kogen. A moderate wind as well blowing it out. A very wintery scene as people start to head out to the lifts. Yakebitaiyama resort area is posting a temperature of -14! It's actually still forecast to clear up today - it just doesn't feel like that now with the conditions early on. Tomorrow should start off fine and it will be warmer than today (which won't be difficult!) Brave the weather though and the rewards are out there on the ski slopes. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 404cm Posted on Wednesday 28th January 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . After the warmer climes of yesterday - when we avoided the rain that lots of areas got, it was snowing here in Kumanoyu where I was for the day - it's much colder this morning. It might have snowed yesterday and overnight but not much in terms of cm. Light snow still falling and a light wind (stronger in some exposed areas I suspect), but generally we're expecting cloudy conditions with just sometimes snow showers today, and a bit of sun tomorrow. Importantly it should be keeping cold this time and then dip further once we get into the weekend which at the moment is forecast to be generally snowy conditions again. Generally quite hard conditions out there yesterday, so a decent fresh layer of soft is what we would like. Up to 10cm of wet snowfall in some areas of Shiga Kogen overnight (Kumanoyu report 10cm), but it's a warm morning - well, warm for us, with the thermometer showing the temp to be around 2 degrees now. Still, it is snowing here in the Maruike area. Not the fluffiest of powder, but snow all the same and with the temps set to drop during the day we're hoping for some nicer snow to report tomorrow... should be continuing snowing through tomorrow too with another wave following up as we get into the weekend.
