- Yuzawa Now: Sunday 8th December 2013
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 15cm Posted on Sunday 8th December 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Very light snowfall for most of the day yesterday in town, though it didn't amount to much at all - but this morning a bit more on the ground... perhaps up to 10cm or so. The bigger news is that Kagura is reporting 20cm, and also that Tashiro is able to open this morning which is good to hear. The Tashiro Number 1 Romance, Tashiro Number 2 Romance, Tashiro Number 4 Romance and Tashiro Number 1 quad lifts are operating as well as the Ropeway. The connection between Tashiro and the main Kagura area is however not yet open. The Mitsumata area also now has the lifts moving, so there's no need for that pesky shuttle bus now either. The Mitsumata Number 1 quad and the Number 3 pair lifts are operating. Good to see more opening of course. Snow is expected to ease off this morning and then fine and clear, sunny weather tomorrow. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 5cm Posted on Saturday 23rd November 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from Yuzawa. After some heavy rain here in Yuzawa last night, the sun is breaking through the early morning clouds as we officially enter the ski season with Kagura opening up for the first time. So the sun is out and there's people sliding down that main course area. I am jealous. The resort is reporting 80cm. So it looks like it will be a fine day here with the forecast saying that it might warm up to as high as 11C later on this afternoon. More fine weather likely tomorrow before we get rain early in the week. Hopefully snow later on in the week... The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . It was snowing later on in the evening when I last looked outside and this morning there was about 5cm of snow on the top of the car... with light snow still falling. This morning it has been somewhat on and off - with the sun making some brief appearances - and for the moment it is just cloudy. Snow is likely to fall on and off for the day though and it does look like higher up on the slopes some snow is falling right now. It is a chilly +1 degrees in town. Great to see the first snowfall of the season in town. Tomorrow might be slightly milder with a chance of sleet/snow continuing but it does look like it will warm up a fair bit from Thursday through the weekend. Kagura is of course the first resort planning to open for the season - on 23rd November. I'll be posting the other planned resort opening dates within the next few days. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Snow has arrived in Yuzawa again with about 10-15cm on lower slopes of resorts from Naeba to Maiko being reported, with Kagura this morning saying they got 40cm overnight. Sounds good to me that. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Happy New Year! Here we are into 2014 already. Why does time seem to speed up so much once the winter season gets underway! A lovely sun peeking up over the mountains earlier on this morning (the photo below coming to you from Maiko Snow Resort), and while the sun is still managing to show itself at times, the skies have clouded over more and that looks likely to continue. No new snowfall being reported from around the resorts in Yuzawa since yesterday but we are hoping that snow will come today. - Yuzawa Now: Monday 6th January 2014
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 166cm Posted on Monday 6th January 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Resorts around town reporting 5cm of snow this morning - ranging from town level to Kagura. I'm putting 10cm though because that is how much was on my car this morning. Curious that the resorts seem to be under-reporting... The very good news this morning though is that it is really snowing quite heavily right at the moment. Real Yuzawa-style, something we haven't seen enough of yet this season. Forecasts didn't really tell us to expect this but it's coming down good now. We just need it to last and bring us a good thick new layer - snow is forecast now for the day and to clear up later on to be followed by cloud overnight and then sun tomorrow. So it's all about how much we can get during the day today. With the snow coming down as it is, visibility looks to be poor on all the resorts this morning. There's some wind at higher elevations but apart from the Dragondola connecting Naeba with Tashiro, resorts look open as normal. After the busy long new year holidays we are back to a normal working week in Japan and so resorts will be getting into normal weekday mode from today. No doubt catching their breath after the crowds. So tomorrow sun is forecast. After that, we're looking at Thursday for potential decent snowfall again. --- Official resort snow depths @ Monday 6th January 2014, AM: Naeba: 130cm Kagura (Tashiro): 200cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 250cm NASPA Ski Garden: 160cm Gala Yuzawa: 220cm Iwappara: 105cm Yuzawa Kogen: 150cm Yuzawa Nakazato: 90cm Yuzawa Park: 110cm ---- Maiko Snow Resort: 160cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 160cm Joetsu Kokusai: 120cm Yuzawa Now 2013-2014 season Data as of Monday 6th January 2014 Total snowfall at base so far 166cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 18 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 30cm (16th December) November 2013 snowfall 5cm reported on 1 day December 2013 snowfall 131cm reported on 14 days January 2014 snowfall 30cm reported on 3 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 156cm Posted on Sunday 5th January 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Cloudy and sort of snowing on and off yesterday, and overnight too. Result - resorts around town are reporting 10-15cm of fresh snow since yesterday. I had 10cm to clear off the car this morning. Feels a bit the same this morning with light snow falling and cloudy but there have been glimpses of sunlight and signs that clouds might clear up a bit. Even some patches of blue sky over Minamiuonuma a bit earlier, but as I write this it has clouded over again and that light lazily falling snow is back with us. It's not going to give us much in terms of new cm though falling like it is. A quick look at the forecasts. Some have this kind of light snow on and off over the next few days, others give us more of a chance of sun. All a bit mixed really. What does look promising is from Thursday onwards with decent snowfall and colder temperatures. That's what we'll need to keep our eyes on. Last day of the holidays and typically less busy as people check out and go back home. From tomorrow, just a normal Monday for most people. The busy holidays mean that generally courses are tracked out, so that upcoming snow refill would be very welcome. --- Official resort snow depths @ Sunday 5th January 2014, AM: Naeba: 130cm Kagura (Tashiro): 200cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 250cm NASPA Ski Garden: 160cm Gala Yuzawa: 200cm Iwappara: 110cm Yuzawa Kogen: 150cm Yuzawa Nakazato: 90cm Yuzawa Park: 110cm ---- Maiko Snow Resort: 160cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 160cm Joetsu Kokusai: 120cm Yuzawa Now 2013-2014 season Data as of Sunday 5th January 2014 Total snowfall at base so far 156cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 17 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 30cm (16th December) November 2013 snowfall 5cm reported on 1 day December 2013 snowfall 131cm reported on 14 days January 2014 snowfall 20cm reported on 2 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 146cm Posted on Thursday 2nd January 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Kagura is reporting 15cm of fresh snowfall overnight, but strong winds mean that the Mitsumata Station is open from the Ropeway to the Number 1 pair lift and the Tashiro Station is just open from the Ropeway to the Number 1 quad. A strong northerly wind at Naeba, where they report 10-20cm, is affecting some lifts over there too. It's windy here too but resorts around the town area don't seem to be as affected, and we have had more like 5-10cm of snowfall around base areas so nothing major really for this region this morning. Obviously that could change at any time. The snow is coming down this morning though so fingers crossed we can build up some more before it eases off - which the forecast tells us should be later today. Poor visibility for the most part this morning as it falls. A small price to pay! The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . A very good cold and snowy morning from Yuzawa. It was snowing for most of yesterday, heavier as the day moved on and this morning we have an extra 30-40cm of snowfall to report in town. Resorts around town are also reporting about the same numbers down to base and so we have a received a very nice conditions refresh and it should be great out there wherever you choose this morning. A moderate wind in some places on mountain but that doesn't seem to be affecting lift operations as far as I can tell. The latest local Niigata forecast has just been published and we are due another 10cm of so from now until 4pm today. In fact the snowfall is due to continue into tomorrow, perhaps easing off by Sunday. I think most people though would be happy for heavy snowfall right through! Monday is a national holiday in Japan and so it's a 3 day weekend coming up. Always busy this weekend, so if you are planning to come an early start is recommended. Like I said above though, whichever skijo in the region you choose conditions should be really good this weekend. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from Yuzawa. As expected we got some rain yesterday as temperatures remained fairly mild and not going down into negative numbers. It turned into light wet snow overnight but we don't have a whole lot to show for it, not down at town level anyway. Just a thin coating of new snow with the most being reported by Kagura at 5-10cm. - Yuzawa Now: Saturday 11th January 2014
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 40cm Snowfall at base this season 248cm Posted on Saturday 11th January 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . What a day yesterday was! As you can see from the report, the day started off with a good new thick layer of snow and it was snowing and forecast to be snowing. Late morning though and the sun was peaking through and then all of a sudden... blue skies! The clouds cleared and we were left with magnificent blue skies with just a few small clouds hanging around. Probably to enjoy the view. Beautiful it was. And the snow refresh helped a lot as well. The slopes generally were quiet and I think everyone who was able to make it out would have had a really great day. While we got those blue skies, by the time evening came it was snowing again! And snow it did, with about 40cm of fresh snow this morning. I say about 40cm, in places it is more than that in some less but that's how much the snow has increased according to my trusty ruler and what's on the cars outside. Needless to say, another good new layer of snow. Interestingly, Naeba is only reporting 5-10cm and Kagura only 20cm and so we seem to have got more down here in the valley than up there - or should I say down there, as they are to the south of the main town area. It continues to snow this morning. The last two days have really changed things here - while we had 'enough' snow before, it just wasn't ENOUGH. If that makes sense. The last few days has given us some renewed deep conditions. In the meantime today is the first of three holidays and so the popular resort areas will be just that today... popular. It will probably be busy for the next few days. The other news for today which I mentioned last week and just reminding you, is that from today the top pair lift at Kagura opens for the season. A few conflicting forecasts for the coming few days. Some are saying that we can expect sun tomorrow, others more snow. We'll just have to wait and see. --- Official resort snow depths @ Saturday 11th January 2014, AM: Naeba: 150cm Kagura (Tashiro): 220cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 270cm NASPA Ski Garden: 210cm Gala Yuzawa: 240cm Iwappara: 165cm Yuzawa Kogen: 220cm Yuzawa Nakazato: 105cm Yuzawa Park: 180cm ---- Maiko Snow Resort: 245cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 210cm Joetsu Kokusai: 160cm Yuzawa Now 2013-2014 season Data as of Saturday 11th January 2014 Total snowfall at base so far 248cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 22 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 40cm (11th January) November 2013 snowfall 5cm reported on 1 day December 2013 snowfall 131cm reported on 14 days January 2014 snowfall 112cm reported on 7 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. Maiko Snow Resort (under?) reporting 15-20cm. Whatever, bottom line is that we have had a lot of snow overnight, and it's still snowing quite heavily this morning. Go back to yesterday and for most of the day until mid afternoon we enjoyed blue skies over the region. Some cloud but the sun was out for most of the time. By mid afternoon though the clouds had moved in and by evening it was snowing. Result, the new snow this morning. Visibility generally poor this morning and a moderate wind. Not the kindest of conditions, but the snow will be great. Snowfall should ease off later today, though we might see clouds delivering their thing through into tomorrow morning. After that, clearer on Wednesday and Thursday looking at the latest local forecast. --- Official resort snow depths @ Sunday 13th January 2014, AM: Naeba: 160cm Kagura (Tashiro): 240cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 290cm NASPA Ski Garden: 245cm Gala Yuzawa: 280cm Iwappara: 170cm Yuzawa Kogen: 240cm Yuzawa Nakazato: 120cm Yuzawa Park: 190cm ---- Maiko Snow Resort: 260cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 250cm Joetsu Kokusai: 180cm Yuzawa Now 2013-2014 season Data as of Monday 13th January 2014 Total snowfall at base so far 295cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 24 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 40cm (11th and 13th January) November 2013 snowfall 5cm reported on 1 day December 2013 snowfall 131cm reported on 14 days January 2014 snowfall 159cm reported on 9 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa.
