Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 3cm
Snowfall at base this season 67cm

Posted on Saturday 21st December 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.

Good morning from Nozawa.

A bit more snowfall this morning with between 5-7cm reported on the upper parts of the resort and just a bit down below too. It is cloudy at the moment with light snow trying to fall still at higher elevations. Hoping for more snow today and tomorrow.

11am this morning is the Grand Opening "Opening Festival" for Nozawa Onsen resort, to be held near the top Nagasaka Gondola Station. There should be some sake on offer and no doubt some other goodies and probably your change to shake hands with the Nozawa Onsen mascot character. Perhaps worth a look if you are up there when it happens.

There are more lifts and courses open from this morning and it's now easier to say which aren't moving than which are moving. See below for the latest there. Courses wise, the area to the right of the Nagasaka Gondola as you look from the village - including the Skyline course - is not yet open. Other than that, most of the main runs of the resort are open from today.

Today is the first day of the three day long weekend in Japan and so it should be quite busy today and tomorrow especially.

Official snow depths:

Yamabiko - 125cm

Uenotaira - 110cm

Hikage - 0cm

Nagasaka - 35cm

Karasawa - 0cm
