  • Furano Now: Wednesday 19th December 2018

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 55cm Snowfall at base this season 211cm Posted on Wednesday 19th December 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Furano has been hit with a major snow front that started yesterday. Total snowfall in the village is a whopping 55cm. This is exactly what was needed as until now we have been struggling a bit. This will be enough to get the Kitanomine Zone fully open from a snow coverage perspective. We will have to wait for an announcement from the resort to see exactly when that will be. It has stopped snowing but there may be some further light snowfall during the day. It feels pretty mild at -3c here in the village, and the warmer weather will be with us for the next couple of days. Due to the heavy snow the resort may struggle to get some lifts operating this morning that are on the list below. First up, fresh snow headlines from the resorts: Hakuba Goryu: 10cm (Toomi) Hakuba 47: 5-10cm (base-top) Hakuba Cortina: 10-20cm (base-top) Hakuba Happo-one: 15cm (Gondola top station) Hakuba Iwatake: 10cm 47 are reporting 5-10cm on official website but they are also saying 20cm overnight and that much again during the day yesterday too. • Furano Now: Tuesday 18th December 2018

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 156cm Posted on Tuesday 18th December 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Unfortunately yesterday was a heat wave and it was warm all day long with some light rain early evening. The snow in the village continued to melt and the roads went to slush. Temperatures have dipped down below freezing again and today looks to be a swing back to winter, There is 3cm of new snow and we will get a lot more during the day. Out on the mountain it is snowing moderately with low cloud. Visibility is limited so caution is required, as there are quite a few bumps and dips on the slopes that won't be easy to spot. The Gondola line was being worked on yesterday so it is possible that it will be operational this weekend. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from Nozawa. Some sun was shining through yesterday but overnight the snow clouds have come back and delivered us with around 10cm of fresh snow (the resort is reporting 10-20cm mountain wide). It is still snowing now and looks like there's rather limited visibility on the mountain. More opening too with the Schneider and Challenge courses now available so there's a lot of terrain open and we're doing pretty good... though a few more decent dumps of snow would be most welcome. (Aren't they always?!) The forecast seems to be showing the chance of light snow on/off over the next few days with still the chance of some rain here and there are temps get a little warmer towards the weekend. Hopefully we get over the hill there and drop down and get decent snowfall in time for Christmas. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from Nozawa. And it is looking like it will be a cracker. The snow clouds have cleared and the sun should be having a headline role to play today. It was cold overnight but it is going to be somewhat milder during the day today, maybe rising to around +5C later on down at village. It will probably be similarly milder tomorrow too... before more snow Tuesday/Wednesday. There's not massive amounts of snow yet, but enough to have a great day out there. You can now ride back down to base via the winding Rinkan (Forest) course. Lots more this coming week please!
