Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata New snowfall at base 33cm Snowfall at base this season 162cm Posted on Friday 28th December 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . Good morning from Zao. Wow lots of snow to report this morning. I am measuring 33cm in my usual spot. Great stuff. And we can expect more over at least the next few days. It is cold - very cold (coldest of the season so far?) and there's lots of fresh snow everywhere, being blown about too. Visibility is a bit limited on lower slopes and poor in places. Looks like the Kokutai pair lift is going to be moving today, so just four lifts not operating yet - including the Oomori quad. • Nozawa Now: Friday 28th December 2018

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 24cm Snowfall at base this season 122cm Posted on Friday 28th December 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . It is a very good morning here in Nozawa. Decent snowfall has arrived. There's 35cm of fresh snowfall on the top Yamabiko area and 20-28cm across the mountain, according to the resort. And I have just measured 24cm. Nice. Cold too. Proper mid-winter conditions. And it is continuing to snow and not about to let up any time soon so things should quickly build up. I don't have any news yet of lift/course changes but there will be changes over the next few days. Some preparation and checking is surely involved - they'll get things open as soon as they can safely. Visibility is limited out there so remember too take care at the same time as being excited of course. Fresh snowfall recorded by resort (since yesterday): - Yamabiko (1407m): 35cm - Uenotaira (1230m): 28cm - Hikage (660m): 20cm - Nagasaka (615m): 20cm - Karasawa (563m): 20cm Official snow depth numbers: - Yamabiko (1407m): 130cm - Uenotaira (1230m): 120cm - Hikage (660m): 45cm - Nagasaka (615m): 40cm - Karasawa (563m): 35cm Nozawa Now 2018-2019 season Data as of Friday 28th December 2018 Total snowfall at base 122cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 11 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 34cm (15th December) November 2018 snowfall 2cm reported on 1 day December 2018 snowfall 120cm reported on 10 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Nozawa Onsen. • Shiga Kogen Now: Friday 28th December 2018

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 14cm Snowfall at base this season 90cm Posted on Friday 28th December 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning from Shiga Kogen. Mid winter cold and snowy conditions up here this morning. An interesting thing to point out - Kumanoyu are reporting about 10cm of fresh snowfall while Yakebitaiyama are reporting about 30cm. So 10-30cm in different parts of the Shiga Kogen region. Both can be correct. I am measuring 14cm to add to our reports here. Every day I will try to report what resorts are reporting as well as what I am measuring so that you can have as wide an account of what is happening as possible. Anyway limited visibility now as the snow continues to fall and hopefully/probably that will continue into early next week. With hopefully some larger numbers to report in the next few reports. The more the better to let the whole area open up. Take care, have fun and see you tomorrow. The below information is manually checked for each report. Official snow depth numbers are as reported by the ski resorts themselves. Giant - Not open yet Hasuike - Official snow depth: 15cm (not updated?) Hoppo Bunadaira - Official snow depth: 20cm Higashitateyama - Official snow depth: 10cm - Gondola operating, but course not open yet Ichinose Diamond - Official snow depth: 50cm Ichinose Yamanokami - Official snow depth: 50cm Ichinose Family - Official snow depth: 45cm Kumanoyu - Official snow depth: 45cm Maruike - Official snow depth: 20cm (not updated?) • Hakuba Now: Friday 28th December 2018

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 16cm Snowfall at base this season 88cm Posted on Friday 28th December 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. The snow headlines: Hakuba Cortina: 50cm (base-top) Hakuba Goryu: 10cm (base); 25cm (top) Hakuba 47: 10cm (base); 20cm (top) Hakuba Iwatake: 20cm-30cm Hakuba Happo-one: 10cm (top of Adam gondola) Ding ding ding ding ding! - we have a clear winner... Cortina are reporting a whopping 50cm of fresh snow base to top this morning. Oh yes, I want to get deep in that lot! While Tsugaike Kogen do not give out such numbers, they are also adding a fair bit to their snow depths and so it looks like the northern resorts in particular have been on the receiving end of some serious dumpage. (Tsugaike also now have their Karamatsu course open so it looks like you can ride back down to Gondola base). There's some pretty decent snow reported around other parts of the valley too, so conditions should be good out there this morning. I am measuring 16cm to add to my numbers. The Hakuba Sanosaka area is (re-)opening from today. I am totally looking forward to being able to not have to check and report on 'courses open' kind of info. Perhaps soon! The forecast remains 'snow' for the next few days. Come on... more, more, more. Have a fine day wherever you are. Yes, lots of lovely snow. A bit of a wind too and cold - so real mid-winter conditions and they are likely to continue for a few days. A few more lifts operating now but the Dragondola is closed this morning because the Tashiro area of the Kagura resort is not open due to the current weather conditions. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Madarao region of Nagano New snowfall at base 35cm Snowfall at base this season 179cm Weather overview Snow Wind NW Temperature - Visibility Poor Posted on Friday 28th December 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Good morning. Oh yes. Oh yes. It surely is. Not great if you like sunshine and blue skies. But if you love quality fresh snow, there's a lot of it around this morning. The resort has 40cm on their website and I have just been outside to measure 35cm. And it continues to snow with the forecast telling us to expect the clouds to remain over us for at least a few more days. This is really going to kick start things into full gear pretty quickly, I would imagine. So, if you are on the way here - lots to look forward to but take care on the roads and come prepared for some cold and snowy conditions. At the time of writing I can't see any changes to planned operations for the day, but as the snow continues to build up and the resort manages it all, we can expect more to open. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. Light snow is falling and it is fairly calm... for now. Just a bit of snow on the ground. But more stormy-like conditions are forecast over the next few days and the heavy snow we are all waiting for should be with us. Personally I can't wait to get deep into some powder conditions as I haven't had that feeling yet this season. It is about time. So yes, look for some good snowfall numbers in the next few reports. I look forward to being able to bring smiles to faces! Ski hill operations around Shiga Kogen remain limited. I notice that Ichinose Family are saying that from today all of their courses are open. So they are trying to get as much out of the current snow we have as possible. If we get a few days of heavy snowfall - that will change.
