The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Just a little snowfall overnight with the ski area itself reporting up to 12cm on upper runs. If the forecasts are correct, the early morning clouds - and lingering snow in upper areas - will be clearing and we will get some sunshine today. It does not feel like it right now as it's kind of grey and dull, but things can often change quickly. After a relatively busy weekend, we are now back to a plain old Monday morning. So things will once again be pretty quiet. If the sun does come out, should be a good morning. Fresh snowfall recorded by the ski area (since early yesterday morning): - Yamabiko (1615m): 12cm - Uenotaira (1407m): 2cm - Hikage (660m): 0cm - Nagasaka (616m): 0cm - Karasawa (563m): 0cm Official snow depth numbers (reported by the ski area): - Yamabiko (1615m): 380cm - Uenotaira (1407m): 330cm - Hikage (660m): 300cm - Nagasaka (616m): 290cm - Karasawa (563m): 215cm All courses apart from the following plan to be open: - Yunomine A Various info: - Rested lifts today: Karasawa pair, Yunomine pair, Mizunashi triple. - Subject to weather conditions all lifts that plan to be open should be ok. - The top Yamabiko A-D courses close at 3:20pm until 27th March (at 3:10pm after that). Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 6cm Snowfall at base this season 469cm Posted on Monday 14th February 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Yesterday remained a cloudy day and this morning... it's cloudy. Some ski areas are reporting up to 10cm on upper areas overnight and there has been some down in base areas. It is one of those days when there is more to the south than the north. (More often than not it's the other way round). It does not feel as cold this morning and forecasts say we'll be warming up to around +3C in the village this afternoon. Hopefully we will be getting some more snow and larger numbers across the coming few days. Forecasts show today clearing up and sun shining down on us. Can't see any of that just yet. - Myoko Now: Saturday 12th February 2022
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 1335cm Posted on Saturday 12th February 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Sunny and slightly hazy today in Myoko. Nice sparkly snow this morning, thanks to some pretty cold overnight temperatures (got to about -9° at base, my trusty recording device says). Those sparkles are faceted crystals on the surface, growing overnight as moisture from the air builds up on the snow crystals. Could be a worry in other places, where big facets stay in the snow and create a weak layer (think potential avalanches), but they pretty quickly disappear here in most cases. Oh, and you know you're self-employed when you don't know when it's a national holiday! I was happy to see all the lifts running yesterday, not realizing it was the first day of a three-day holiday weekend here in Japan. We didn't have the stream of cars coming up the hill in front of my reporting station that we used to see; I think people are getting smart and taking the prefectural road, which is less steep and better plowed (as previously reported in SnowJapan). But the parking lots are full, so customers are here (and welcome to Myoko). The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Just a little light snow falling today, and the sky is brightening up a bit. Even some blue skies to the north...obviously we're still in the storm cycle that didn't exactly bring heavy snow to the Tokyo metropolitan area. But I am happy for you city folk; nothing spells a day of traffic confusion quite like several tens of centimeters of snow on the city streets. I wish there were more to report from Myoko, our fair town at the base of the mountain of the same name, but it is quiet. Lots of restaurants aren't opening; many that are open don't serve alcohol, so what's the point in going out? There is still so much snow everywhere that we're never really done pushing it into more convenient piles. The machines are even tired, as it seems everybody is making minor repairs, changing belts, etc. Nice white mountains, though, when things clear up enough to see them. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 463cm Posted on Friday 11th February 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It's the long weekend with many people off work today due to the National Foundation Day national holiday. This weekend is often one of the busiest of the season. Some snow during the day out there yesterday, though not delivering big numbers. For example, Hakuba 47 were saying there was about 5cm. The only overnight snow being reported this morning is by Hakuba Cortina (5cm). Hakuba Happo-one have curiously posted 10cm for Nakiyama and none from higher areas. Anyway enough of numbers. There's blue sky above us this morning and it's a fine start to the day. There's still a lot of cloud about and actually it's still snowing in some areas. Perhaps it will cloud over for the day. There's a chance of clearer skies again tomorrow.
