Snowfall at base this season 1335cm

Sunny and slightly hazy today in Myoko.
Nice sparkly snow this morning, thanks to some pretty cold overnight temperatures (got to about -9° at base, my trusty recording device says). Those sparkles are faceted crystals on the surface, growing overnight as moisture from the air builds up on the snow crystals. Could be a worry in other places, where big facets stay in the snow and create a weak layer (think potential avalanches), but they pretty quickly disappear here in most cases.
Oh, and you know you're self-employed when you don't know when it's a national holiday! I was happy to see all the lifts running yesterday, not realizing it was the first day of a three-day holiday weekend here in Japan. We didn't have the stream of cars coming up the hill in front of my reporting station that we used to see; I think people are getting smart and taking the prefectural road, which is less steep and better plowed (as previously reported in SnowJapan). But the parking lots are full, so customers are here (and welcome to Myoko).
