The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Well, it's colder but I can't help but be somewhat disappointed this morning. There is just a dusting of snow to report at base and clear roads. Not to fear. Wednesday/Thursday is the next snow event to look forward to and hopefully one that will produce much better results! As I write this there is still a lot of cloud around but the sun is peeking through in places too and I can see some blue sky. It might be clearing up. Sunshine and clear skies forecast for tomorrow and Monday. Anyway, have a nice weekend! -------------------------------- Here are the planned opening dates for ski areas around Hakuba. - Furano Now: Saturday 25th November 2023
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 18cm Snowfall at base this season 43cm Posted on Saturday 25th November 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It has been a warm lead into winter and just a couple of days ago it was +16c. The weather has jumped back into winter mode with a large snow front over Hokkaido at the moment. The opening of Furano Ski Resort was scheduled for today but there is not enough snow to commence operation, with the slopes pretty much devoid of any snow until today. And that brings the good news...the snow front has deposited 18cm of snow on the ground in the Kitanomine village. The snow is heavy with higher moisture content which is perfect for starting to create a base on the ski runs. The temperature is -7c and the high today will stay solidly below freezing, only going up to -3c. There is snow forecast off and on over the week ahead and temperatures will remain cold, except the forecast is showing a warm spike on Tuesday that may bring rain. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 66cm Posted on Tuesday 21st November 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Things are different this morning - it's sunny blue skies from early on with just some cloud in places. Mt Yotei is looking fetching, effortlessly pulling off a 'fluffy cloud hat' look. There is also a thin layer of snow on the ground from snow yesterday and I can just about justify adding 1cm to the report this morning. (That probably won't last long this morning with mild temperatures due). Tomorrow will probably be fine too, but the weather looks interesting from Friday onwards. It will get colder again and we might receive some decent snowfall. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 10cm Posted on Sunday 19th November 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. We have had some fresh snow overnight. As always, the amount varies depending on where you are, but I have measured 5cm at my main measuring point near Ichinose Family, observing about the same around Hasuike. The Yokoteyama ski area is still open today with one ski lift and the Number 4 course available. (Bafflingly, though no entirely surprisingly, the 'lift operation' page on the official Shiga Kogen website is not reflecting this. According to that, all lifts at Yokoteyama are closed). I believe the ski area still plans to be closed from tomorrow through Wednesday, with a proper official opening due from Thursday 23rd. I don't have any news from Kumanoyu yet. They will be open just as soon as they feel they can. Looking at various forecasts, clear and sunny skies and mild conditions seem likely on Tuesday-Wednesday, with the next cold front moving in by the weekend. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 15cm Snowfall at base this season 15cm Posted on Sunday 19th November 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. And what a good morning it is, with a layer of snow on the ground! Yes, it was snowing yesterday and into the night - actually quite heavily at times - and this morning I have my first snow of the season to add to the reports. Around 15cm of it too in base areas. I can't find any info posted by ski areas this morning but I wonder how much there was at higher elevations. (Interesting how the snow that was hanging on trees around my place late last night seems to have gone. Some forecasts seem to indicate it might have turned to rain early morning. Unconfirmed, I was sleeping). Anyway, great stuff. My gear is calling me... Right now there is still some cloud around, but there's blue sky and sun at times too. With clearer skies due over the next few days the snow at lower levels may not (probably won't) last. The next snow is due perhaps later in the coming week, around Friday. I'll keep you posted. -------------------------------- Here are the planned opening dates for ski areas around Hakuba. All are of course subject to change and depend on snowfall. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here It is a cloudy and calm morning early on today. We did get some more snowfall during the day yesterday, and it was actually quite heavy at times, clearing up somewhat before evening. There was even some blue sky showing through the clouds. Not a whole lot more to report in terms of cm, though. We are expecting some clearer skies later today and generally warming temperatures across Friday and Saturday. We must try not to get too upset when we get rained on! Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 20cm Snowfall at base this season 62cm Posted on Tuesday 14th November 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here The very good pre-season news continues this morning with another 20cm or so of fresh snow (at base) since my last report. It felt it perhaps feels slightly warmer outside this morning. At the moment it is snowing lightly. Over the next few days we should expect some gradually warming temperatures and some sunshine (particularly tomorrow). Around Friday it might warm up to around 10C at base and there is currently some heavy rain forecast. That's not going to do our snow any favo(u)rs, of course, but beyond that it should start getting colder again. We are still over two weeks away from opening. So for the moment we can just enjoy the lovely snow that we have received over the last several days. ---------- Planned opening date:1st December 2023: Niseko Village Ski Resort Planned opening date: 2nd December 2023: Niseko Annupuri Kokusai Niseko Moiwa Ski Resort Niseko HANAZONO Resort Niseko Tokyu Grand Hirafu Planned opening date: unconfirmed (probably late December): Asahigaoka Niseko Now 2023-2024 season Data as of Tuesday 14th November 2023 Total snowfall at base so far 62cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 4 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 20cm (14th November) November 2023 snowfall 62cm reported on 4 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Kutchan/Niseko. The latest Geto Kogen Now report can be found here . Good news this morning. The snow that started yesterday continued during the day and overnight. The result is a base of 21cm (and 30cm on upper areas of the mountain according to the ski area). That's not enough to open and it doesn't look like there's much chance of more before the planned opening date of 18th November, so expect a delay. Also, looking at different forecasts, it will surely getting somewhat milder over the next several days with rain due on Friday (even higher on the mountain). Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 19cm Snowfall at base this season 42cm Posted on Monday 13th November 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Following yesterday's snow during the day and overnight, I have another 19cm of fresh snow to report this morning. For the record, JMA is reporting 10cm over the last 24 hours, so apparently less down at 176m and to the east of Kutchan station (as you would expect). Old-timers like me will remember that oftentimes, after the first snowfall of the season, it warms up a little before winter starts 'properly'. And this first layer can disappear. Things will be getting milder from Wednesday for at least a few days, but still, with me reporting around 40cm so far down at the base, it is a very encouraging start. I am enjoying this!
