Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido
New snowfall at base 19cm
Snowfall at base this season 42cm
Posted on Monday 13th November 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here
Following yesterday's snow during the day and overnight, I have another 19cm of fresh snow to report this morning.
For the record, JMA is reporting 10cm over the last 24 hours, so apparently less down at 176m and to the east of Kutchan station (as you would expect).
Old-timers like me will remember that oftentimes, after the first snowfall of the season, it warms up a little before winter starts 'properly'. And this first layer can disappear. Things will be getting milder from Wednesday for at least a few days, but still, with me reporting around 40cm so far down at the base, it is a very encouraging start.
I am enjoying this! And I think some celebratory toast is most definitely called for.
