Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido

New snowfall at base 18cm
Snowfall at base this season 43cm

Posted on Saturday 25th November 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here.

It has been a warm lead into winter and just a couple of days ago it was +16c. The weather has jumped back into winter mode with a large snow front over Hokkaido at the moment.

The opening of Furano Ski Resort was scheduled for today but there is not enough snow to commence operation, with the slopes pretty much devoid of any snow until today.

And that brings the good news...the snow front has deposited 18cm of snow on the ground in the Kitanomine village. The snow is heavy with higher moisture content which is perfect for starting to create a base on the ski runs. The temperature is -7c and the high today will stay solidly below freezing, only going up to -3c.

There is snow forecast off and on over the week ahead and temperatures will remain cold, except the forecast is showing a warm spike on Tuesday that may bring rain.
