Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 178cm Posted on Friday 15th December 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Naeba everybody. What a beautiful day to be out and about in the mountains. Amazing sun and beautiful blue skies all over the shop! Things are looking significantly snowy after yesterday's huge storm "Alberto". All the grass is now covered by a thick layer of snow, however, caution should still be applied as whilst a lot of snow has fallen in the last few days it has not yet had a chance to form into a solid base across most of the mountain. The best riding will therefore still be had on the marked trails. We received another 10cm of snow during the day yesterday after we submitted the report which has been groomed to make some beautiful groomers today. Exciting news today as the mountain is now ski-able from the top of Gondola No. 2 to the bottom. Please bear in mind this is currently just one run though. Looking on we are expecting the clear weather to continue until Saturday afternoon and then another small snow storm. Get out there and lay it down! Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata New snowfall at base 7cm Snowfall at base this season 84cm Posted on Tuesday 12th December 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Good Morning Everyone! Naeba will be opening at 0800 today and with some fresh snow on the ground, it could be a great early season day on the mountain. As was hoped for yesterday, Naeba has received a fresh deposit of 7cm of snow overnight, which should freshen up the pistes a little. However, despite this, conditions will likely still be choppy underfoot. Due to the lack of base, please make sure to stick to the marked pistes today. The forecast suggests we should expect continued snowfall over the next 3 days, with up to 30cm falling at the base of the resort. Alongside this there are strengthening winds, which may generate a significant wind chill of around -11°C, with the temperature at the base feeling as low as -22°C going into the afternoon today. After a dry, clear spell towards the latter part of the week, Naeba is expected to plunge back into storm mode towards the end of the weekend. With the fresh snow and cooler temperatures overnight last night, the condition of the pistes should be an improvement on the last couple of days, so certainly an early season day to get after it! Tidy! Are we in for a bumper season? We shall see. 5cm of first snow to get us going. Naeba itself this season plans to open from Saturday 9th December, so we are just over three weeks away from that opening. Before then, Kagura is planning on starting the season next Thursday, 23rd November. Just one week away! Some seasons they only can manage to open a small part of the upper part with complicated bus services taking folk up there, while others things get off to a good start right from the beginning. This season we have already seen snowfall up on the mountains and all areas of Kagura are looking covered in white as I write this. And it's actually snowing lightly down to base of Naeba early this morning... it's not sticking just yet, but there's a thin dusting of snow on the ski runs down to base. The forecast is good too, with snow planned even down to Yuzawa town level Saturday into Sunday. Here's to a very snowy season.
