Latest forecasts seem to show some variable conditions (possibly even some light snow in higher places!) but hopefully some nice weather too. Tomorrow should be fine and sunny and perhaps Sunday, too. The remaining ski areas will probably get quite busy on the main holidays. The Route 292 road connecting Shiga Kogen with Gunma is now open. However, the section connecting to Kusatsu is closed due to a snow slide. You can still access Shiga Kogen via Gunma, but for the time being need to use the Manza Onsen Highway (toll) road. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . I think it is worth mentioning that yesterday morning Okushiga Kogen (ski area) was reporting up to 50cm of snow in some wind-blown places. There was a lot of fresh out there. Lots of cloud around still this morning, but there is also some blue sky and the sun is breaking through at times too. Even if it gets sunny, though, it should remain cold. A generally calm weekend is expected and we should be back to snow from around Tuesday onwards. The coming week is looking promising in terms of potential snow. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. Some neighbouring regions to the north and east have enjoyed some really heavy snowfall numbers. We have some decent numbers too, but maybe not quite as much. Variable amounts depending on where you are, I'd say around 15cm and upwards. Early morning Yakebitaiyama was reporting 30cm; over there along with Okushiga seem to be where most has fallen. It is actually quite bright at the moment, with light snow still falling in places. After a break from this snowfall over the weekend, we should be getting more fresh early week. We've had some rather complicated weather going on recently, but perhaps we are heading back into a prolonged spell of good old mid-winter goodness. I'd say we have received 5-15cm across the region, with my measurement of 12cm. It is still snowing and more is due today and tonight, perhaps heavy at times. It is snowing in some places (Okushiga Kogen), but still kind of sunny in others. Varied weather. But the snow clouds are certainly due to move in and take control. And maybe for a few days with wind also possibly being a factor. A complete reset in time for the weekend sounds like a great plan. Yakebitaiyama were reporting 15cm very early morning and Okushiga Kogen is also reporting 15cm. With more snow coming around Wednesday - for much of the Japanese mountains it seems - I am hopeful this is the start of our journey back into mid-winter weather conditions! It's not the kind that will add up to cm, but perhaps we'll get some of that kind overnight. As with other nearby regions, there is what looks like good snowfall incoming around mid-week. A fresh layer of soft snow would be most welcome (and sustained colder conditions too; it does feel colder this morning). Incoming snow clouds again for tomorrow but we might get a good amount of fresh from this one. It is not expected to last too long though, with sun currently forecast for Thursday.
