Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 1133cm Posted on Friday 22nd April 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . What looks like some fog up on the top areas early this morning - visibility looks very low. That will probably improve as we do have cloud/sun forecast for the day and a high temp around mid-teens. Cloud, maybe some sun and maybe a spell of light rain is currently lined up for tomorrow. I am not going to be able to post a report tomorrow, so the next report will be on Sunday. The ski area remains part open. You can still ski/board from top to base. From the top Yamabiko area, come down the mountain via Uenotaira and Paradise. A shuttle bus is available from the exit of Rinkan course back to Nagasaka. Lower runs near base are looking varying degrees of patchy now as the remaining snow quickly melts away. You can ride the Gondola back down if you want to avoid the lower runs. Snow cover on higher areas remains very good. Official snow depth numbers (reported by the ski area): - Yamabiko (1615m): 185cm - Uenotaira (1407m): 110cm - Lower areas: not reporting Available ski runs (planned, subject to change): - Yamabiko A-E - Uenotaira - Paradise - Schneider (upper part) - Challenge - Utopia A - Rinkan Operating lifts (planned operations, subject to change): Nagasaka Gondola - Open daily until 8th May - 8:10am until 3:00pm, last one down at 3:30pm Yamabiko Four - Open daily until 8th May - 8:25am until 3:10pm Yamabiko Four 2 - Open daily until 8th May - 8:20am until 3:20pm Skyline connecting pair - Open on 29th April until 8th May - 8:20am until 3:20pm Uenotaira quad - 8:25am until 3:20pm - Open on 16th-17th April, 23rd-24th April, 28th April until 8th May Paradise quad - 8:25am until 3:20pm - Open on 16th-17th April, 23rd-24th April, 28th April until 8th May Planned closing date this season: Nozawa Onsen plans to be open until Sunday 8th May 2022 Nozawa Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Friday 22nd April 2022 Total snowfall at base 1133cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 61 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 86cm (6th February) November 2021 snowfall 15cm reported on 2 days December 2021 snowfall 272cm reported on 11 days January 2022 snowfall 384cm reported on 22 days February 2022 snowfall 416cm reported on 20 days March 2022 snowfall 46cm reported on 6 days April 2022 snowfall 0cm Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Nozawa Onsen. Details below. It's a cloudy start. Some dark grey clouds up there too and they are due to bring us some rain later on, perhaps from around lunchtime or early afternoon. The next few days looks changeable with more settled weather due from Tuesday onwards. Snow cover on the open runs higher on the mountain remains good and they will surely manage to remain open until the planned last day on 8th May. It will be interesting to see how much snow will be there in 10 days time. Apart from a few mounds of piled-up snow, the base Hikage is now looking almost totally bare and Nagasaka is bare. - Nozawa Now: Sunday 8th May 2022
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 1133cm Posted on Sunday 8th May 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Hello from Nozawa Onsen on this last day of the 2021-2022 ski season. We are starting the day with sunshine - it's a good way to end the season. It might be 8th May, but the ski area could probably stay open even longer as there's still enough snow up on the top areas. But today is going to be the last day. And what a season it was. I have been able to report 1133cm of snowfall - and that is just here at base. Add a fair chunk to that for the snow higher up. Tons of it! Looking back at the data on the Snowfall analysis page (link above and here), 1133cm is actually the most I have reported in any season. It is over double the amount in the 2019-2020 season. Impressive. Let's have about that much snow every season, hey? Naski, our fave bright green skiing vegetable (mascot character) is most definitely very pleased. All we need now is open borders and world peace! Seriously, I hope to see many friends from overseas here next season. Fingers crossed. And that's all I have for this season. My reports remain available along with all the other data based on the numbers I post each day, so you can read them any time. I thank you for reading and hope you enjoyed following the season. I'll be back in November. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. We have another dusting of snow, a few cm around base areas. Yokoteyama Ski Area and Kumanoyu Ski Area both have plans to open this coming weekend, Saturday 15th November, but I don't have any confirmed news to convey to you just now. It does look like clearer skies are due tomorrow through the weekend, so there will be a reliance on snow making machines. The section of road (Route 292) connecting Shiga Kogen with Kusatsu in Gunma Prefecture will be officially closed for the winter season from tomorrow. Oh yes, one more thing. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 8cm And another pre-season report to let you know about another light amount of snowfall down to base. And it is snowing lightly right now. Even if this snow (also) disappears, as it may well do, it counts! It is still snow. My last report mistakenly appeared for a short time in the Nozawa Now report section... and a few of you noticed! Doh! Sorry about that. And thank you to the people who pointed out the error. Obviously we are not in the swing of things yet and it will take a while to get used to the routines. Let's gambarimasu to avoid mistaking! (Clearly, I have not yet filled up enough on toast. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Well yesterday we got some sunshine in the afternoon and increasingly blue skies up there. Made for a fine day on the slopes especially with that new snow. This morning there's not a massive amount of new snow, around 10cm down at base areas, though interestingly the resort is reporting 26cm at Uenotaira (since yesterday morning) and 12cm on Yamabiko... It is snowing at the moment but likely to ease off as the day goes on. Maybe we might get some clearer skies again like yesterday? Sun from the get go is forecast for tomorrow, before more snow on Tuesday. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 37cm Snowfall at base this season 529cm Posted on Saturday 30th January 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from Nozawa. It took a while to get started (resort reported 1cm by lunchtime), but we have a very good layer of snow this morning. Perhaps not top-draw quality, but don't take that as a complaint. Looks good to me. The resort itself is reporting 36cm on the base Hikage and Nagasaka areas and 46cm on the upper Uenotaira and Yamabiko areas. I can indeed report 35-40cm of fresh snow. A very welcome Nozawa-like layer of snow along with cold temperatures... back to mid-winter! As I write this there are actually a few breaks in the cloud and the snow has eased off down here at base, though still falling on the mountain, and we are likely to see more snow through the day. Probably just light rather than anything major. Wind doesn't seem to be much of an issue this morning. So it should be a good day. Come Monday we might get some sunshine. Fresh snowfall recorded by the resort (since yesterday afternoon): - Yamabiko (1407m): 46cm - Uenotaira (1230m): 46cm - Hikage (660m): 36cm - Nagasaka (615m): 36cm - Karasawa (563m): 20cm Nozawa Now 2020-2021 season Data as of Saturday 30th January 2021 Total snowfall at base 520cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 26 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 56cm (17th December) November 2020 snowfall 0cm December 2020 snowfall 290cm reported on 12 days January 2021 snowfall 230cm reported on 14 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Nozawa Onsen. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning and welcome to the Nozawa Now report for the day, though actually I am writing this from... Hakuba! You might have heard of it. It's quite nice, I suppose. ;) But anyway, I am here after a phone call with a friend who tells me there's about 12cm of snow to report (resort is reporting up to 15cm in upper areas since yesterday afternoon) and a cloudy morning, with light snow lingering higher up. Looks like there's limited visibility on the mountain, pretty good down towards base. There's not much wind today and it is a cold start. We might get to see sunshine later on... and tomorrow too when it is going to be noticeably warmer.
