Hello from Nozawa Onsen on this last day of the 2021-2022 ski season.
We are starting the day with sunshine - it's a good way to end the season.
It might be 8th May, but the ski area could probably stay open even longer as there's still enough snow up on the top areas. But today is going to be the last day.
And what a season it was. I have been able to report 1133cm of snowfall - and that is just here at base. Add a fair chunk to that for the snow higher up. Tons of it!
Looking back at the data on the Snowfall analysis page (link above and here), 1133cm is actually the most I have reported in any season. It is over double the amount in the 2019-2020 season. Impressive. Let's have about that much snow every season, hey?
Naski, our fave bright green skiing vegetable (mascot character) is most definitely very pleased.
All we need now is open borders and world peace!
Seriously, I hope to see many friends from overseas here next season. Fingers crossed.
