Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano
New snowfall at base 37cm
Snowfall at base this season 529cm

Good morning from Nozawa.
It took a while to get started (resort reported 1cm by lunchtime), but we have a very good layer of snow this morning. Perhaps not top-draw quality, but don't take that as a complaint. Looks good to me.
The resort itself is reporting 36cm on the base Hikage and Nagasaka areas and 46cm on the upper Uenotaira and Yamabiko areas. I can indeed report 35-40cm of fresh snow.
A very welcome Nozawa-like layer of snow along with cold temperatures... back to mid-winter!
As I write this there are actually a few breaks in the cloud and the snow has eased off down here at base, though still falling on the mountain, and we are likely to see more snow through the day. Probably just light rather than anything major.
Wind doesn't seem to be much of an issue this morning.
So it should be a good day.
Come Monday we might get some sunshine.
Fresh snowfall recorded by the resort (since yesterday afternoon):
- Yamabiko (1407m): 46cm
- Uenotaira (1230m): 46cm
- Hikage (660m): 36cm
- Nagasaka (615m): 36cm
- Karasawa (563m): 20cm
