A fine day yesterday, warming up in the sun in the afternoon and mostly clear skies; quite a lot of cloud forming around the mountains by the time the lifts closed for the day. There has been no new snowfall since yesterday. Temperatures of around -8C overnight and again this morning the early morning cloud has quickly disappeared over Hakuba leaving us with clear blue skies and stunning views of the mountain peaks. A high temp. of around +1C is expected today. Mixed forecasts for tomorrow ranging from cloud/sun to the chance of some light snow showers from time to time. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Lots of cloud around this morning along with generally poor visibility on higher slopes, and some snow as well. The numbers available from resorts have been posted below, so up to 5cm or so in places. I would say lighter snow than we had yesterday as well. It's not due to last much today though with a clear up expected and clearer and milder conditions tomorrow. After that some decent snowfall on the mountains going into Wednesday (staring off as rain at village level?) and then colder again in the later part of the week. Some light snow falling this morning and a few cm on the ground with up to 10cm being reported on upper slopes - updates from around the resorts where available below. It is not snowing right now outside my window but there seems to still be a lot of cloud around, but I can see the sun shining through the clouds in some places as well. A high temp of +4C is due in Hakuba this afternoon. Not a huge amount but good to get a bit of fresh snow, though it will quickly be scraped away I would imagine. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It is colder this morning again. I don't seem to have said this as much this year but... Hakuba Cortina wins the 'most snowfall' competition this morning, reporting 20cm. Other resorts coming in with numbers ranging from just a few cm at base to 15cm on upper areas. Mixed bag of numbers, but whatever - there's light fresh snow everywhere this morning and I for one am looking forward to getting out on the slopes this morning even if visibility does look limited. Quite strong winds in places at the moment which have the potential to affect lift operations - I see that the top lifts at Goryu and Line C and E at 47 are not moving early due to the winds. Happo appears to be unaffected for now and it looks like Cortina is open normally too. Snow showers are expected over the next few days and through into next week as well and it will be remaining cold. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Another cold morning in Hakuba, currently around -6 degrees in the village and we should keep below zero through the day. Snowfall during the day yesterday, though not much in terms of cm, with a bit more overnight. Hakuba 47 reporting 6cm since yesterday morning, Hakuba Cortina @ 10cm of fresh. This morning we have quite a lot of blue sky over the village with the peaks of the mountains hidden behind a bank of cloud. Good visibility on the slopes. A good day to be sliding down the mountainsides. Snow should be falling by the end of the day here and overnight and the forecast is telling us to expect snow clouds over the region through until Monday so we should be getting some decent refreshes for the weekend. Lovely weather conditions yesterday in Hakuba with blue skies in the morning; it started to get overcast and cloudy later after lunchtime and by the time it got dark it was all grey. Snow to report overnight. Resorts saying they have up to 5-10cm fresh out there and it is snowing now. Rather wet and not really sticking big time here in the village at the moment as it is keeping quite mild. Limited visibility on the slopes. The forecast remains hopeful of some decent snow ahead of us. It should be colder tomorrow and snowing. I hope I can bring news of fresh delivery of quality snow tomorrow morning. Light winds early but stronger are forecast for later today, let's hope they don't mess with lifts. Clearer conditions are expected tomorrow and maybe Wednesday. Right now there's the ominous sign of potential rain around Thursday as we hit a warmer spell of weather, but hopefully if that happens it won't last long and be followed again by snow. In resort news, Hakuba Minekata has now closed for the season. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba and what a fine morning it really is. That was one good March storm yesterday. Hakuba Cortina report 40-60cm. Hakuba 47 were talking about 20cm during the day yesterday and another 0-5cm overnight. Other resorts seem reluctant to brag about numbers; which to me always seems odd. If I were a skijo, I'd be shouting it out on a morning like this. But, as I am not a skijo and aren't being told those numbers, I just have to imagine it! Never mind the exact numbers though, there'll be some great conditions to enjoy today pretty much anywhere you decided to slide. The sun is out as well this morning and it is a cold start, so pretty much as perfect conditions as we can expect for the second half of March. There's every likelihood that we have just experienced the last blast of winter with sun and a real warming trend ahead of us starting tomorrow. Let's worry about warm conditions later; for now it should be a really great weekend for Hakuba. Do take care out there - fresh snow on hard ice; an avalanche incident apparently involving a fatality over near Tsugaike Kogen made the national news yesterday. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba, and a fine morning it is as well. Lots of blue sky above Hakuba village this morning, some clouds still hanging on around the peaks of the mountain backdrop, but mostly fine and sunny. A splattering of snow on the mountains though a few cm at most. It got quite cold overnight with a low of -5C, but by mid afternoon today it should have risen to perhaps around +5C. Tomorrow should continue with the sun in the morning and it's due to get warmer than today and rain is expected later on. Hopefully once the lifts have stopped for the day, and there might be some snowfall at higher elevations at night. Warmer temperatures through at least the first half of the coming week and more chance of rain than snow. Though, there's some promise around Thursday of the chance of a cold snap and more snowfall so let's keep an eye on that. For now though, best to come expecting spring conditions and enjoy them for what they are. Quite a few events going on today on the slopes - at Happo-one alone they have the All Nihon Technical Competition at Usagidaira, Ladies Snowsurf Day at Happo Banks and the Hakuba Snowshoe Trail run at Nakiyama. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Temperatures dropped down to minus double figures overnight again and as of 9am it is around -6C here in Hakuba. So another good cold start to the day. And we have new snowfall to report as well from around the mountains. Cortina winning with an impressive 30cm being reported, with between 10-20cm being reported on upper slopes here in Hakuba. It should be a very fine morning. We have magnificent clear blue skies as well this morning. Lovely. (I'll try not to spoil things by mentioning that things are due to warm up from tomorrow and we might get some rain in the village before turning into snow around early Thursday... more on that tomorrow). So really great at the moment for approaching mid-March as we are. I clearly remember this day three years ago actually - it's 3 years ago since the terrible earthquake and tsunami over on the Tohoku coastline. That was one scary day... The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning and good news I have. Yes, we do have that snow that we were promised. I haven't been up myself yet of course but resorts are reporting 15-20cm of fresh on upper resort areas this morning. 5-10cm on lower areas, but it is still snowing now and hopefully should be for the rest of the day today and tonight. Good to see snow on the roads again. Let's see how much we can get piling up! Tomorrow onwards it's looking like the coming week will be mostly clearer and lots of sun and really warming up mid week, so this could well be our last taste of 'winter' for the season. So we want as much snow squeezed out of those clouds as possible. Anyway I'm off to play in this fresh snow. Until tomorrow! A bit less warm tomorrow and rain on the forecast, though still I see snow mentioned for high elevations with the freezing point set to drop below 1500m. It's going to be interesting to see if we get anything out of that. For now though, a very fine sunny day for spring skiing and boarding. Hakuba Goryu: Plans to be open until early May.
