- Myoko Now: Saturday 27th November 2021
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 30cm Snowfall at base this season 30cm Posted on Saturday 27th November 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . The first real snow on the ground at base level means we can officially start reports for the 2021-2022 season! Looks like about 30cm at the end of the day, and it's still coming down at a very gentle pace. Lots of lightening and thunder since the afternoon, too, something that often happens a lot here before heavy snow falls, and especially graupel (soft hail). Lots of hose little balls of snow out there! Pretty much a normal snowfall for this time of year, and, as usual, the forecast is for some sunny weather to follow the snow, which probably will continue into tomorrow. The resorts are scheduled for opening around the 18th of December, snow permitting, so getting a good base going would be great. Like everyone else, we're all just waiting to see what happens in the ever-changing world of the pandemic. People are hopeful for more domestic travel, at least, but with new virus strains continuing to emerge and cases rising in many places, the locals are getting ready for another possibly tough year (big sigh). No major developments to announce, either. Let's just hope the La Nina forecasts come true and we get a great snow year (falling all the way through April? Yes, please!) Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 14cm Snowfall at base this season 23cm Posted on Saturday 27th November 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. And what a good morning it feels like too. There is a fresh layer of snow on the ground around village areas and it is continuing to snow. Hakuba 47 are reporting around 20cm on lower areas and about 30-40cm higher up. They are also starting up their lifts and lots of course area - for the moment just for this weekend. Beyond that... we'll see. Hakuba Goryu will start up their Alps Number 3 pair lift from today. Hakuba Happo-one are reporting 37cm of fresh snowfall on the Usagidaira area. The official snow depth up there now is 130cm. Very happy to be able to report these things in November! Beyond today the forecasts show that there will be break from this snowfall. But hopefully there is enough snow up on the mountains for the open ski areas to remain open in the coming week. This made me laugh. Good old Facebook. I try my best to avoid it as much as possible, but during the winter there are some Japanese information sources that require me to look. Anyway, one automated translation this morning is 'translating' the name of the ski area Hakuba Happo-one to... 'Hakuba Flirtatious Ridge ski resort'. I like that. They should consider renaming themselves. ----- Hakuba Happo-one Reported snowfall: - Kurobishi: 0cm - Usagidaira: 37cm - Nakiyama: 0cm Official snow depth: - Kurobishi: - - Usagidaira: 130cm - Nakiyama: - Lift & course info - Gondola, Panorama pair and Kokusai Number 3 lifts operating - Panorama run (800m) Hakuba 47 Reported snowfall: - Summit: 45cm - Base: 20cm Official snow depth: - Top: 130cm - Base: 20cm Lift & course info - All lifts plan to be open (apart from Line D, which only operates when the gondola is rested) - Most of the mid to upper areas plan to be open Hakuba Goryu Reported snowfall: - Upper: - - Toomi: - Official snow depth: - Upper: 70cm - Toomi: 5cm (?) - Niseko Now: Friday 26th November 2021
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 26cm Snowfall at base this season 62cm Posted on Friday 26th November 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here The exciting snow news continues with another decent layer to add to what I reported yesterday. Everywhere is looking white and while the snow clouds still mostly remain, there is also some blue skies and even some sunshine in places. Beautiful. But some light snow falling too. I think the blue sky is temporary and the snow will win - I should have more to report tomorrow. A good opening next week seems very likely which is just how we like it (while sadly missing lots of friends who want to be here to enjoy it). I am of course aware of that whole situation and I do feel for everyone who wants to visit but finds themselves unable to. I don't want you to think that I am just ignoring that, but I also don't want to be mentioning it too much. After all, these are snow (and toast) reports. So like last year I will try my best to strike a good balance on that score and mention when it seems fit and appropriate. ----- Planned opening dates: Niseko Village: Friday 3rd December 2021 Niseko Annupuri: Saturday 4th December 2021 Niseko Grand Hirafu: Saturday 4th December 2021 Niseko Hanazono: Saturday 4th December 2021 Niseko Moiwa: Saturday 4th December 2021 Niseko Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Friday 26th November 2021 Total snowfall at base so far 62cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 4 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 31cm (25th November) November 2021 snowfall 62cm reported on 4 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Kutchan/Niseko. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here I have excellent news to share! The snow continued yesterday and this morning there is a decent amount of it resting and looking all lovely and fresh. I have just been out and measured just over 30cm. There is more (or less) than that in places, and I'm excited to think how much there might have been up top. And there is more on the way too, probably easing off over the weekend when we might get to see some sunshine. - Hakuba Now: Thursday 25th November 2021
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 9cm Posted on Thursday 25th November 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . I have really great news to report this morning. Hakuba 47 have been reporting around 20cm of snow on lower areas and 45cm of snow higher up. Hakuba Happo-one have 67cm as their new snowfall/snow depth number at the Usagidaira area on their official website. I had a walk over to the Sakka area this morning and there was probably around 20cm of snow on the ground over there. I am hearing of around 40cm at Hakuba Iwatake and similar numbers from Tsugaike. How about that then!? :) A quick drive around the town areas shows a layer of snow around base areas, drying up as you head out from town. Hopefully we will get more snow on Saturday and lower areas will remain white, but realistically there is a good chance that we will see the ground again before winter sets in for good. That impressive snowfall on higher areas should stick around and if we can get some more at the weekend I would guess we might see some ski lifts moving fairly soon. For the moment there is a lot of cloud around still but patches of blue sky too and the sun is starting to shine through in places too.
