The snow coming down combined with low cloud sitting on the mountain means visibility will be variable unless the low cloud lifts. The temperature is a lot milder than recent norms and it is a sweltering -5c, which will rise slightly to -3c during the day. Both sides of the mountain are open for night skiing now - Prince Romance lift on the Furano Zone and Kitanomine quad chair on the Kitanomine Zone. (Happo-one are the odd man out this morning, reporting a much larger 30cm from the Kurobishi area. Not sure what the story is there, but I'd like to find out. And perhaps I will!) This morning we had some light snow falling but that has since stopped in some areas, though I see that it is still falling lazily in others. There's just a light wind and visibility is pretty decent generally. OK so we might get some sun today and tomorrow at times but we should be back to proper decent snowfall from Tuesday night. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here It's a very fine morning with over 20cm of lovely fresh snow on the ground to report to you. I just measured 24cm, but there's surely more than that in places. (As I report from my own measurements rather than 'in places', the number for the report is 24cm). At one point it was really coming down fast yesterday evening... I love it when it does that. And I love it when there's over 20cm, it's a fine number to aspire to every day. Higher numbers, of course, always most welcome. Anyway back to this morning. There is much cloud around but also some blue sky and it feels quite bright out there. In fact, since I started putting my report together there is more and more blue sky showing up. It should be a fine morning. Yey! Today is the middle day of the three day weekend. Humidity and snow temperature are a bit high due to the low pressure, which has produced the famous champagne powder - good riding. From observation, expect 30-40cm fractures on 8 Jan layer with loose avalanches below 900m, however since it is not slabbing it will not be as deadly. Do not hang around in the valley bottoms. Around 1100m it is possible for smaller avalanches to stimulate deeper to the 2 Jan layer triggering larger avalanches. All gates are expected to be open. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here I have another 13cm of overnight snowfall to report this morning from overnight. It's a long weekend and I can see a fair few people lined up for their first Hirafu lift of the day. It should be a relatively busy one (though not 'before times' kind of busy!). Snow is falling as I write this and we may have another modest amount to report tomorrow. Tomorrow and Monday might be drier, with a return to heavier snow due once again around Wednesday. Basically for the moment the snow is going to stick around and never be that far away. Just how we like it. From today the Jumbo Number 4 at Annupuri will be open for an extra 15 minutes (8:45am-3:15pm). The latest Zao Now report can be found here . A modest fall last night but sufficient to rejuvenate the lower slopes which were becoming a bit too compacted. It is misty but viz is ok even in the denser parts. Thankfully the gale force winds of yesterday whipping up Uwanodai and the bowl of Chuo have gone. There is a chance that it will become clearer as the day progresses with a bit more snow tonight. In the meantime, it's on and off but very light. I'd say a decent day. Some snow overnight and during the day yesterday, though not a large number from lower areas but note that the top area reporting 30+cm since yesterday morning. So the powder refreshes continue. This morning started with a lot of dark looking clouds around but it has quickly brightened up and right now the sun is increasingly shining down on us all. It should be a very fine day. Monday is a national holiday in Japan, so it's one of those long weekends and usually a busy one. 15th January is always an important date in Nozawa with the famous fire festival. This year the event is going ahead, but there are going to be restrictions for the main event on 15th. Basically the general public aren't going to be allowed into the central event area and there will be entry restrictions around the area from 3pm until 11pm. There are no restrictions planned for the lead up events held on the 13th and 14th, apart from everyone being asked to be good and take precautions. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . Back to fog land after two great sunny days. It also feels much colder than what the thermometer says. It is supposed to be a partially sunny day but some days this comes on later. The fog is retreating up the mountain and the sun is shining on and off in the valley and below base so this is probably going to be the case. Only light snow today. Wind-wise, it is going to be blowy higher up which may affect some lifts. Temperatures remain cold and mean that the snow on piste is in excellent condition. It is -13c at the moment and the high for the day will be -7c. With all lifts operating (except for the kids snow escalators) there is plenty of skiable terrain. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . I had to do some walking last night... it sure was cold out there! Icy too. There has been some snow overnight, just a dusting-plus really. The ski area is reporting snow falling on upper areas and it will probably be snowing down here too soon. Large amounts are not expected and tomorrow morning the sun will probably be out and being all genki. Fresh snowfall recorded by the ski area (total since yesterday morning): - Yamabiko (1615m): 9cm - Uenotaira (1407m): 7cm - Hikage (660m): 3cm - Nagasaka (616m): 3cm - Karasawa (563m): 3cm Official snow depth numbers (reported by the ski area): - Yamabiko (1615m): 255cm - Uenotaira (1407m): 210cm - Hikage (660m): 165cm - Nagasaka (616m): 165cm - Karasawa (563m): 135cm All courses apart from the following plan to be open: - Yunomine A - Mizunashi A - Kamoshika Planned operating lifts: - Subject to weather conditions all lifts should be open. - The Utopia and Challenge pair lifts are normally rested on weekdays. - The top Yamabiko A-D courses close at 3:20pm until 27th March (at 3:10pm after that). - Skyline course closes at 4:10pm. - The Nagasaka quad lift is open for night skiing 8th-9th Jan, 11th-12th Feb (subject to change).
