Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 28cm
Snowfall at base this season 814cm

Posted on Wednesday 19th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

A lot of snow fell, but it's a beautiful sunny morning in Myoko today. Cold, crisp, clean, blue skies, white mountain.... Makes all the plowing worthwhile. We're probably only going to have a half day without snow, though, as the forecast is for snowfall in the afternoon, and another heavy fall tomorrow. Nice to have a little sun to help get the snow to fall off the roofs, so we can clean up and get ready for more. The skiing should be outstanding. Another day where it would be tough to climb offpiste, and the danger of sluffing is very real, so if you do decide to fight the drifts, be really careful of what's below you as you descend. A little valley with lots of flowing snow could be pretty dangerous.

One thing: all lifts are running at Akakan today. Three lifts were closed yesterday, but the closure until the 20th is Champion B course, which is hosting a race and will closed today and tomorrow (sorry for the confusion!).
