Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 36cm
Snowfall at base this season 548cm

Posted on Tuesday 18th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.

Loads of snow overnight and it is still coming down at quite the rate as I make this report.

36cm measured as of just before 8am and counting. The ski area is reporting 30cm (Hikage) to 50cm (Yamabiko) of snowfall.

Visibility is limited at best this morning and very poor in places. All this fresh snow is very exciting but some serious care is required on a day like this. Best to stick to the main runs which will be plenty fun and fluffy.

Tomorrow should see a break in the snowfall with more due late week. We're doing well for snow. (As one would normally expect in Nozawa, of course!)

Rested lifts today: Skyline connecting pair, Challenge pair, Utopia pair, Nagasaka quad, Kawasawa pair

Fresh snowfall recorded by the ski area (total since yesterday evening):

- Yamabiko (1615m): 50cm

- Uenotaira (1407m): 48cm

- Hikage (660m): 30cm

- Nagasaka (616m): 30cm

- Karasawa (563m): ?cm

Official snow depth numbers (reported by the ski area):

- Yamabiko (1615m): 335cm

- Uenotaira (1407m): 290cm

- Hikage (660m): 250cm

- Nagasaka (616m): 240cm

- Karasawa (563m): 165cm

All courses apart from the following plan to be open:

- Yunomine A

- Grand Prix

Planned operating lifts:

- Subject to weather conditions all lifts should be open. See above main report for specific info for this morning.

- The Utopia and Challenge pair lifts are normally rested on weekdays.

- The top Yamabiko A-D courses close at 3:20pm until 27th March (at 3:10pm after that).

- Skyline course closes at 4:10pm.

- The Nagasaka quad lift is open for night skiing 11th-12th Feb (subject to change).
