Sunday 25th May 2025... last day of the official ski season here in Shiga Kogen.

The lift at Yokoteyama will finish up the season tomorrow, Thursday 22nd May.

Today is the last day of operations for the Yokoteyama Number 2 lift.

Yesterday was the last day of the season for the Kumanoyu ski area.

We might have finished Golden Week and be in the second week of May, but it still almost feels like the tail end of winter.

We are about to start the famous Golden Week holiday period.

There has been a dusting on places where it first accumulates, and I feel I can just about report 1cm. (It has since gone from roads outside my place).

It is actually snowing this morning. The road outside here in Hasuike is damp rather than covered with snow but there has been a slight layer.

Some dusting of snow - enough for 1cm added to this report, but roads are clear.

A little more snow to report since my last report and this last day of March, and last day of operations for nine ski areas in Shiga Kogen.

Fresh snow on the ground with up to 10cm or so in places. It is really colder too, which is such a contrast with the real warmth of recent days.

We got some foggy/rain kind of thing going on last night but this morning the sun is out and it is going to be another warm spring day.

It's lunchtime and after a cold start has been warming up, though not too much.

This is something of a surprise... as much as 30cm of new snowfall.
