It has been snowing heavily overnight and there is a whopping 45cm of new snow since the last report at base level of the resort.

Temperatures stayed low yesterday and there were some light snowfalls over the last couple of days but nothing significant.

Today was the planned opening of Furano Ski Resort for winter 2021-22.

The good news is the first accumulation of snowfall in the ski village has occurred overnight.

Furano Ski Resort has a tentative opening date of Saturday 20 November.

The 2020-21 ski season has come to an end in Furano so it is a good time for a little reflection.

It is a perfect spring day with clear blue sky and the morning sun shining strongly.

Despite recent warm daytime temperatures of up to 15c, Furano was hit by a snow front this morning and the village is blanketed in white again.

Furano is now well into spring and a lot of the snow around the village has melted away in the last 1-2 weeks.

It is snowing lightly and there is 5cm of fresh snow at base level.

Yesterday was the last day of the season for the Kitanomine Zone and from today only the Furano Zone will be operating for spring skiing.

Today sees the return of winter and some snow.

I am happy to report it is snowing in Furano and there is 6cm of new snow sitting on the ground at base level.

Yesterday was truly tropical and a sign that we are starting to exit winter and move into spring.
