Plucky 0
It's official, I'm out of Japan - August 24th. I'm happy about the move to Fairbanks, but feel a little sadness also. It's been a good time, but I'm really looking forward to getting back to some real, unpopulated wilderness, glaciers, big mountains, fishing, hiking.....just paradise. Big bummer though - tore up my knee again last weekend surfing. Yep, same knee as last year and the year before. It was too swollen and painful for a concrete diagnosis yesterday, but it's pretty much the meniscus and/or the ACL this time. I may have to have surgery next week on it to get it unlocked. For you guys thinking I'm a hypochondriac, it's not that at all....I've just beat the hell out of my body too much Shoots, I waited 5 days before seeing a doc and then thought, "yeah, I'd better go in." I'm actually hoping it gets a bit better so I can have it looked at in Oregon when I fly back to pick up my Jeep. Anyway, found out a good way to get more room on flights - just tell them you are injured and may have surgery - bulkhead (way more room) seats go to you! So, I'll be around for another 3 weeks +, but I keep planning to check in here once I go back. I definately plan on sharing pics from Alaska. If you're bored, do a google on "Alaska Surfing" and then also check out http://www.shredthemoose.com 100 dollar flights to get to Alyeska and Alpen Glow also. 3 day weekends...I can't wait. I've got a few friends in Anchorage and Girdwood, so I'm set Plus, be starting my PhD in Geomorphology at Uni Alaska, Fairbanks soon. Aloha

Chorus Singing too-rall, li-oo-rall, li-ad-di-ty, Singing too-rall, li-oo-rall, li-ay, Singing too-rall, li-oo-rall, li-ad-di-ty Oh we are bound for Botany Bay Oh we are bound for Botany Bay. There's the captain as is our commandeer, There's bo'sun and all the ship's crew There's first and the second class passengers, Knows what we poor convicts goes through Knows what we poor convicts goes through. 'Taint leaving Old England we cares about, 'Taint 'cos we mispells wot we knows But becos all we light finger'd gentry Hop's around with a log on our toes. Hop's around with a log on our toes. Oh had I the wings of a turtle-dove, I'd soar on my pinions so high, Slap bang to the arms of my Polly love, And in her sweet presence I'd die And in her sweet presence I'd die. Now all my young Dookies and Duchesses, Take warning from what I've to say, Mind all is your own as you touch-es-es, Or you'll find us in Botany Bay, Or you'll find us in Botany Bay. Note On the 29th April 1770 a British ship named the Endeavour, under the command of Captain James Cook, anchored in what was later named Botany Bay. The first fleet Botany Bay on January 19, 1788 with eleven vessels. They carried about 730 convicts and 250 free settlers. Today Botany Bay is surrounded by the suburbs of Sydney**. ** db says: BullShit! The Cook landing site in Botony Bay is now a friggin oil refinary, but that is not relevant to the current topic.
