merryJim 1
My dvd player has just broken on me and I want a nice new region free one. I want something good - not just the cheapest - progressive, 5.1, dts, etc. Anyone bought a new one recently they can recommend? Up to about 4 man Thanks!
Roger's head 0
Try some of these http://www.rakuten.co.jp/kaigai/583308/ I have the Pioneer DV667A: http://www.rakuten.co.jp/kaigai/583308/694976/ Very happy with it.
yamayamayama 2
And I have one of the others on there http://www.rakuten.co.jp/kaigai/583308/609303/ Nothing to compare it to, but its good enough for me.
orinoco 0
Hey I didn't know about these! Excellent! So can you even play PAL dvds on a Japanese tv then using one of these?

DVDR/RW, VCD on CD-RW the lot. Does the job without having a fancy name on the front panel.
IceEiji 0
I had cheap one too. It was awful. For a start, it did not display well, and it was unreliable. The new one I have is much better - the picture and sound is noticealby better.
indosnm 0
what about you lot with Xbox's here. Does your regionX work on all DVD'z? PS2's bought in Japan only play ALL NTSC if you get the mod chip. one's bought in Oz work for ALL region is you buy there.. strange.
brit-gob 9
I had an el cheapo one at first. NTSC discs from the US weren't so bad but he picture on PAL discs from UK was crap - wobbly lines at the top and bottom of the picture. I got a better player this year and those same lines do not appear and the picture is much better. I'm not interested in fancy labels on the front. Just interested in a quality picture. So from my experience I would definitely pay a bit more for a decent one.
nzlegend 1
Well I must have struck it lucky. The one I have has a great picture, never had a problem, no flicker no lines, nothing. Its a DM Tech. I tried to use my ps2 - it was horrible for playing DVDS. The only problem is I cant use my home theatre as it has a coxial digital output, but the home theatre has a optical. I am slowly thinking about changing to a new player. I saw these at PrimePCs website http://www.primepc.jp/goods_pc_parts/goods_pc_parts.php?dr=10&sc=1&iv=y&stk=0&brcode=100&sbrcode=129 the Nextwave ones are multi region and both are prog scan, looks alright. but remember progressive scan is only useful on a digital TV, regular old analogue ones cant deal with prog scan. How many of you guys got compatible TV sets?
big-will 7
I think you might be asking grungy-gonads for that one with his megaplazMA
grungy-gonads 54
Yes my sexy beast home cinema sure can deal with progressive and any other shit you throw at it! I got a decent region free dvd - didn't want to compromise just for the sake of a man or two - and it looks su-weeeeeeeeet.
indosnm 0
Kamo, I am using my PS2 and no problems at all. Sure probably I could get better. I am looking at one of the new ones that I can plug straight into my sky perfect tuner, so that I am able to recored the K-1 events on DVD.
indosnm 0
I just got this one because my son got heaps of aussie dvd's for Xmas. Cheap but not nasty & if he breaks it i aren't gonna cry too much about it. http://page2.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/b57740894

My PS2 & Mac DVD player were sometimes sensitive to scratches on my fake bali DVD'z and this baby plays all of them
maoriboy 0
I want to buy a multizone dvd player but with 4 already in my aparto (PS2, Xbox, home stereo system and PC) Im not sure if I can justify it to my wife.
grungy-gonads 54
DVDs from overseas. Much much cheaper than the same titles in Japan. More than the justification you need.
indosnm 0
Maoriboy, doesn't your Xbox have region X? ( I think thats what they call the mod that allows you to make it all region)
maoriboy 0
Nah it doesnt have Region X. Is that a plug-in/cd mod or is it hardwired into the electronics. Coz if its standalone Id definitely be interested
