skidaisuki 0
Friends who've been up there recently say that Fuji san has a hell of a lot of snow on it this year, right down to the base of the mountain. I seem to remember that last year the situation was reversed - loads of snow in the Alps but little on Fuji. Wonder if this is El Nino taking effect? Hopefully there's no direct relationship with the amount we can expect to fall on the ski-jos over the next few days...
minus 1
I remember yes last year there was not much on there at all - it was on the news. The other way round this time?
SKI 15
That surprises me (about there being a lot of snow up there). Do we have any evidence? Just found some: http://www.snowjapan.com/e/daily/webcam/central/fuji-1.html
oo 1
Hardly down the base!
skidaisuki 0
True - perhaps it has been melting lower down... Well, more than one person told me this over the past month, so I still trust their observations at the time they made them. As for my harebrained weather theory though - err...all I can say is that since I'm not going to be skiing Fuji-san, I don't actually care how much snow's on it
SirJibAlot 0
That's funny....el nino put snow on Fuji. El nino is global - but the dude is one tricky dude....He's hiding my snow, and he won't give it back. I'm gonna tell mutha nature to beat his ass with a twig! -SJA
Thunderpants 0
Fuji gets snow when weather systems comes in from the south. we have had a lot of rain in shizuoka this december, that translates to snow up higher on Fuji. When the nice weather systems comes in from the north, Shizuoka gets sun and strong wind. that explains last years lack of snow last year. By the way, it looks like a nice system will hit us on friday. http://weather.unisys.com/gfsx/9panel/gfsx_500p_9panel_easia.html still a bit early to tell, but i bet there is 40-60 cm in that one
veronica 2
Thats interesting Thunderpants. They are nice colors but.. When you saw a nice system, you mean for us here in Shizuoka or the folks that really need it further north?

Curt 1
The snow just keeps on missing us, doesn't it? Here's to a suddent snowfall over new year and then good snowfall throughout the season and a late end to the season.
