Kumapix 0
well, the etrex does everything the watches do and is a gps, all for the same price 200$us.
mattlucas 0
I used to use the etrex all the time. Very easy but I wouldn't bother with the compass feature. Eats up energy way too fast. The good thing about the watches is that the batteries last a long long long long long long long long time GPS is cool for leaving it on when you are skiing back down because you can download your route onto a pc after and see where you went. That is always fun. But batteries are expensive.
Kumapix 0
that's good to know Toque (about the compass). any other things to look for? is it worth it to get the 2way radio gps? How about the screen: colour or not?
mattlucas 0
I don't like the radio version Keep them seperate. Even though that's a bit more weight. I didn't know they came in color So I have no opinion on that
Kumapix 0
I'm not sure that the american ones are able to read jpn maps perfectly. Obviously Garmin doesn't say

Kumapix 0
just saw next years north face jacket and it has a 'watch window' - a clear plastic circle on the left sleeve so that you can see your altimeter watch! that jacket is goretex xcr and it's 73000yen!!!! heard 686 is making one too
NoFakie 45
Last years had it too Kuma. Or at least the one they had in Rapies does. I think its the Takeuchi Masanori one. I've got an older version I got through contacts for 3 man.
damian 0
73000 yen in EUR terms is not that bad for an xcr jacket. A window like that is justified, but it would have to be made of very low temp durable plastic.
mattlucas 0
My Arcteryx jacket has a little window on the shoulder for one of those little radios Not the clearest window but it is definitly durable
