SnowJapan Moderator SnowJapan.Com#4 5 Posted February 21, 2006 SnowJapan Moderator Share Posted February 21, 2006 A bit of a SJ get together today at Nozawa. The day started off very cloudy but it really cleared up later on. Some interesting signs were spotted. My friend was hanging around waiting for the ladies that might have made this sign: This is where a road goes: Not many ropes, but lots of these signs: Check this out for a view: More photos here: http://www.snowjapan.com/e/insider/photo.php?userid=davei
yamayamayama 2
That last picture is so cool - it's from the top, right? Is that the Kijimadaira mountain in the middle there?

giggsy 0
We like it on top?! What exactly are they trying to say there?!
fukdane 2
I like it. There's a 'main' road coming down Nozawa?
muikabochi 208
If I remember correctly, it isn't a main road but it is the road that connects Okushiga Kogen with Nozawa only open May - October. How was the snow up there?

alferg 0
did you see the signs that say "a disaster!" & "an avalanche!" ? im kicking myself for not taking a snap of those.... hopefully one of my mates did.
Fattwins 0
the disater sign trees lead away from the resorts and you could end up 30 to 50 kms away by car.
alferg 0
that would be a disaster indeed! we noticed that it looked like the middle of nowhere over that ridge. lovely view though. what's the name of the resort you can see from there?
woywoy 0
Kijimadaira I think LPL ... Correct me if I am wrong peoples.
SnowJapan Moderator SnowJapan.Com#4 5 Posted February 22, 2006 Author SnowJapan Moderator Share Posted February 22, 2006 The mountain sticking up in the middle of that bottom photo is the Kijimadaira mountain. Shiga Kogen areas are to the left (can't see them)
alferg 0
ok, so that photo is taken looking to skiiers right from near the comm tower at the top of this photo?
SnowJapan Moderator SnowJapan.Com#4 5 Posted February 22, 2006 Author SnowJapan Moderator Share Posted February 22, 2006 I would say. Take that top quad (photo above). Get off the quad and walk about 10 meters in front of you (slightly to the left). You'll see that view straight ahead of you.
alferg 0
cool, yeah thats what i thought. im trying to get a mental map of the area in my head, because every time we went for a drive anywhere, we were constantly going "whats the resort over there?" i have tonnes of photos & vids from nozawa & hakuba. will get my report together soon as i can. dervik 0
Hey guys, I'm going up tomorrow to see just how icy it is up top at Yamabiko. Guests have told me that if it gets sunlight its OK to ski on by about midday, otherwise its hard and scrapey sounding...Oh great brick layer god of dumping! Please Please let it dump soon! LPL I really want to see Jim and Bretts media too of course. The monkey park stuff should be schweet. I'll try and get those sign pictures for you too! Also, I don't think that is Kilimanjai or whatever, unless it's masked under clouds, because usually it looks more like a pyramid out on its own, much more than that snap. I think that one is more rightish. Happy to be wrong though. Next time it dumps seriously I am heading straight over to try it out.
dervik 0
Oops! Yeah on closer inspection it is Killa-Man-Diary mountain after all, only the peak and to one side a bit from my usual view of it down in Iiyama.
alferg 0
NPM, yeah we have lots, but i'm afraid very little of it looks as spectacular as the niseko & hakkouda stuff from 2 years ago. we scored lots of great pow, but the warmer weather made it a bit heavy & the powder days were fewer. deanoid, once the other lads get back i'll collect up all the media & make you a dvd. next time i really want to checkout Kijimadaira
Fattwins 0
I dont know if boarders are aloowed up to the top of kijimadaira the steep course. Its too bad about the weather mate Im still in shock. 10meters in a month and then it just turns to spring in January??? WTF
alferg 0
must be global warming huh the season in nz seems to have shifted to a later start. aus season seems to be starting later too, but not as extremely as nz. canada has had some shockers in recent years. not sure about elsewhere in the world... will be interesting to see how the rest of the J-seasons run this year.
