advantyper 0
thats cool, hey Toque, sounds like you are from Canada. In your opinion, do you think Niseko is better then Whistler? I only got great things to say about Whistler, everything I read about Niseko is great things too. Just wondering what people who been to both places think.
mattlucas 0
Niseko and all of Japan have nothing on resorts in the rest of the world The freedom of a place like Whistler is like being given 100 dollars to spend in a candy shop. In Japan if you obey the rules you only get 2 dollars in the candy shop I'm from the Lower Mainland area. Hour from Vancouver.
Fattwins 0
Toque come on now tere is good sking to be had here if you look. and no one skis it.
mattlucas 0
Well that's why I said if you obey the rules If you don't obey the rules then you are given 1000 dollars in the candy shop
Fattwins 0
thats the toque we know and love. just pray for a good season back home cause they need one.
mattlucas 0
Yes they do And I don't want to go home for 2 weeks and not get some good runs in. Especially if Japan is getting pounded.
Fattwins 0
japan is due for a bad one, one of these years. I just hope it doesnt happen.
mattlucas 0
There will always be snow to be found though Might just have to get up high above the resorts and hit more true backcountry runs
Fattwins 0
that is true, toque. i want to bag a few of the bigger lines around the alps this year.
yoroshiku onegai shimasu 2
Wasn't 2 years ago pretty bad compared to average?
advantyper 0
Tks for the info, Toque. From all the reading on the web on Niseko. I was expecting Heaven like dry powder, which it probably is. But Whistler is pretty HARD to beat. From lower Vancouver, if you grew up there, you must go up to Whistler often. Living in Oregon, its only 5.5 hours drive away from Whistler... so I guess living in the Northwest have a lot of bonus!
mattlucas 0
It was still a 3 hour drive for me getting there But I did have a pass the year before I came out here. There is more to Japan than Niseko It might have the dry powder but...
Fattwins 0
It is boring as for someone who can see and has eyes and skills
advantyper 0
?? is Niseko not the best choice? I am totally open to going another resort in Hokkaido, but one that is hopefully at least a bit English speaker friendly. My japanese is pretty bad!
advantyper 0
Any other recommedation? or options other then Niseko?
Fattwins 0
Tomamu Furano (before it gets over played) Why are you thinking about hokkaido only? There are places up north honshu like Zao which get tons of snow. Hakuba has 7 resorts if you put that all together you get 4 nisekos
Fattwins 0
Myoko in nigata put that together and it is bigger than niseko Arai gets huge snow and mid week no one is there Nozawa onsen Yuzawa nigata
dizzy 0
can't miss with niseko, but Toque is right, there's so much more than niseko, esp. in hokkaido rutsutu isn't too shabby, either furano is overplayed in my opinion, but if you want real hokkaido champagne powder, head out to asahidake close to the city of Asahikawa. if you're tight on time, it's bit of a gamble though, b/c the asahidake aerial tram/ropeway doesn't run if the wind gets too strong. when it is open, you have the entire mt. basically to yourselves kiroro and sapporo kokusai are both closer to sapporo than niseko and get snow that's just as good can't say i've ridden whistler winter snow, but i do say that hokkaido is up there if not better than snow in colorado, where i lived for 4 years good luck! advantyper 0
thanks for everyone's input, and no I am not thinking about Hokkaido only, its the only one that rread so many great things about. So I thought I'll go there first. Myoko and Arai and Furano sounds great, I'll have to do much web research on them. Are those three all in Hokkaido? How are they in getting around easily for non japanese speaker? In everyone's opinion, what is the next best to Niseko or third best to Niseko? Thanks for everyone's help, good thing i didn't book anything yet.
advantyper 0
How would everyone rate the following mountains Kiroro Sapporo Kokusai Myoko Arai Furano from 1 being the best and 5 the least fun?
Curt 1
1 Arai 2 Myoko (Suginohara) 3 Furano Don't know: Kiroro Sapporo Kokusai
advantyper 0
Thanks Curt, I'll do more research on the Arai, Myoko and Furano. Just hope they'll be as good as Whistler BC when I get there.
