Could you pass the test to be an Aussie

Recommended Posts

Yes there is a test to be a Aussie (cue for posts on what you feel the test should be) and apparently Kiwis trying for Aussie citizenship are some of the worst at passing it. "applicants from Sweden, the Netherlands, Finland, France and Switzerland average over 97 per cent in the test, New Zealanders applying for citizenship average only 72.6 per cent"

You need to get 75% to pass, if you want to try a practice test the link is here:

I got 19/20 which given that Kiwis in Aus taking the test only average 14/20 gives some validation to Robert Muldoons statement "NZers moving to Australia raise the average IQ of both countries" :-) :sj-lol:

You are right there, you would have to have a very good grasp of english to get some of the questions right.

That oral test is the easy bit

The hardest part for many new immigrants is the other oral test - swallowing a vegemite sanga

I used to drive tour coaches in NZ, and always remined the passengers, especially the Japanese, that the little sachets of black stuff on the breakfast table wasn't chocolate. Always got a few who didn't listen and piled a whole sachet of vegemite or marmite on their toast, then took a bite, but only ever one bite.

Yeah, you just cannot buy good taste, can you!

And, just FYI, there's a vast, vast difference between Vegemite (the real deal) and Marmite (a pommy abomination to food flavours) :D

If I pass do I automatically become Australian?

I'm a bit scared to do it just in case... I don't think I could ever come to terms with wearing those 'JR hats' that have corks dangling down from the rim. They just look silly.

Seriously, did I just become Australian over the internet?

Like one of those priests that can be ordained over the 'net?

Bugger. Balls. Bollocks. I don't want to be Australian.
