gareth_oau 2
GG, when you import stuff personally, do you need to pay any additional taxes or duties on arrival and if so, how much and is there a threshold before these taxes are applied?
grungy-gonads 54
Well, this time nothing. I just ordered it online and it arrived. The delivery company rang my bell, I signed for it, that's all. And when I buy stuff from amazon and stuff I think there was only one time when I had to pay something but that's out of like tons of times I have bought stuff online. So I have very little experience of having to pay taxes/duties whatever.
gareth_oau 2
in australia, there's a threshold of A$1,000 for the goods (not including freight). If the goods exceed that value, the aussie govt then adds in the freight value, and hits you with typically 10% import duty, then compounded with a further 10% GST (VAT), plus some fixed costs
grungy-gonads 54
I tend not to buy expensive stuff from overseas, so wouldn't know. How much is that, about 80,000 yen? Things I buy and get sent are all way cheaper than that - CDs, DVDs, BluRay, this watch etc.
gareth_oau 2
aussie retail prices are so expensive that overseas shopping has been my base case for the last few years. For example, I recently bought some snowboard boots: either $650 in Oz, or $260 (including freight) ex US if I see the sale os no risk, then I'll buy overseas. I'm just about to buy 4 tyres for my car ex US
best skier in hakuba 5
I remember being charged some seemingly random amount when I got some gear bought from the US sent over. I was like, whats this, and the guy on the door basically said duh don't know, but if you want the gear please pay me!
