oo 1
An item on the evening news patron official patrol on the beaches at Kobe going round and asking people showing tattoos to either cover them up or leave the beach. Sounds rather strange, but I remembered that not-in-the-onset rule. Do lots of onsen still ban them? (Not that it would affect me personally)
Thundercat 60
Kobe seems to be super anal (maybe for good reason) about the beaches there. I think one or two years ago they also passed a law banning smoking as well.
Tubby Beaver 209
they banned smoking on the beach at kugenuma/enoshima last year, not that it did any good. If they threw tattooed people off the beach this year then there'd be no one left! How can they possibly tell people to bugger off from a public place because they have a tattoo.....it doesn't make any sense
pie-eater 207
I actually saw that. They did it by going up to them and asking!
NoFakie 45
Someone should hand out transfer tattoos so everyone has one. I recommend hinomaru flags or a nice slogan like "utsukushii kuni nippon".
kkk 7
You'd think there were more important things to do.
BagOfCrisps 24
Yes if they did that here there would be no-one left on the beach. Good way to get it to yourself perhaps!

Tubby Beaver 209
yeah here too, but Onsen are private businesses......the beach is a public place......I just can't see how they could make people get off the beach. Would they call the Police?? Would the Police even respond?? Its madness
klingon 10
Well, silly rule or not..... people generally just 'behave' in Japan don't they? Even tattooed gnarly dudes.
Tubby Beaver 209
not the tattooed people who populated Kugenuma beach this year.....they were very bad dudes
klingon 10
Well yeah but I was meaning generally, now that "everyone" has one/some.
