Nisoko 6
Never been to Ueno. Whats the zoo like? Happy animals? (for a zoo)
HelperElfMissy 42
Great Zoo to see the animals = terrible zoo for the animals. Perth Zoo has made a big move to make animal friendly enclosures as close to natural as possible under the circumstances - but it does mean a trip to the Zoo (usually school field trips where they are required to sketch animals etc) can be very hit and miss - more like a safari - can you spot any animals in this enclosure... But Ueno reminds me of what Perth Zoo was like when I was a child - you can see ALL the animals because they are right there -tiny enclosures, no where to hide. We didn't spend a lot of time in the Zoo this time, but we did a couple of yrs ago with the kids. But I did notice the Kangaroo's were in a cage no bigger than a bedroom or two - and quite a few of them - 3 bounds and they were from one end to the other - that is far from comfortable for them. I would be interested to hear from people local if there are attempts or plans to make Ueno Zoo more animal friendly? More like Singapore Zoo style. Or is it snookered because of it's location?
