scouser 4
We still have a chance, just a slight one, of 4th so I would expect us to try and beat Chelsea however painful such a result might end up being for Liverpool.

thursday 1
I like this story, seems in fair balance. Quote: Kevin Garside: Steven Gerrard should bail out of Liverpool's sinking ship before it's too late Four goals at Burnley’s Premier League funeral, two by Anfield’s eternal talisman, changes nothing. The scale of Liverpool’s decline is best measured by Steven Gerrard himself in anticipation of Thursday’s Europa League semi-final return leg against Atletico Madrid: “a night when heroes are made.†The red backdrop is not the shirt but the Kop blushing. Heroes were made in Rome, Paris and London, and unforgettably in Istanbul, where Gerrard joined his name to that of Kevin Keegan, Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush, setting in indelible ink the words 'European Cup winner’ The Europa League is the invite polite European society declines, the own brand economy cup. The 24-hour odyssey to Madrid via Runcorn and the West Coast Main Line was the kind of mad, cobbled-together journey perfectly in step with the downgraded nature of the event. To be dumped on arrival by a discarded Manchester United stiff, Diego Forlan, heaped further manure on the occasion. This is not a trophy that regal institutions set out to win. For a club such as Liverpool, the Europa League is an embarrassment, not an inducement to party like it was in 1977, 78, 81, 84 or 05. Gerrard turns 30 next month, a fortnight before opening what is likely to be his final World Cup jaunt against the United States in Rustenberg. So far have Liverpool fallen, victory at Turf Moor notwithstanding, he has more chance of lifting gold with England than the Premier League with his hometown club. In 2005, two months after drowning AC Milan in the Bosporus, Gerrard said no to Chelsea. He was 25 and worth a bid of £32 million from Roman Abramovich. Euphoria won the debate. The bridge he helped to construct connecting Liverpool’s present with the glory of their European past convinced Gerrard that the foundations were strong enough to support a successful domestic challenge. Liverpool had not won the championship since 1990. The year 2006 would end the wait. Liverpool would convert the irresistible momentum generated in that Gerrard-inspired comeback against AC Milan to reassert their championship credentials. Everything was flowing through Stevie G. It was meant to be. Destiny said so. Destiny is nothing but chance dressed up as certainty. Romance washed up on the Chelsea shore. Liverpool finished third. Chelsea retained their crown. The flirtation with Stamford Bridge was the closest Gerrard has come to emulating the heroes of Liverpool past. The Fernando Torres-led assault on the hegemony of Manchester United reached its high point a season ago. The club’s subsequent fall has many authors, not least an indebted ownership and the eccentric transfer policy of Rafael BenÃtez that saw the iron legs of Xavi Alonso replaced by the ginger-limbed Alberto Aquilani. BenÃtez is whistling in the graveyard with his claim that Torres is happy. He is 26, approaching his peak and not interested in pursuing the Europa League at a club for sale. His moment is now. The appointment of British Airways chairman, Martin Broughton, to the same post at Liverpool to oversee the sale changes nothing. The club is £237 million in debt and scheduled to meet a £100 million repayment in July. Liverpool have been on the market since the Americans Tom Hicks and George Gillett bought the club three years ago. It was always an investment never an indulgence. There are no mystery buyers out there. Broughton will have no need of Forbes magazine to identify the deepest pockets. New ownership will almost certainly mean shifting the debt from RBS and Wachovia to some other leveraged account. It all points to greater uncertainty not a fantasy rebound to the top of the Premier League. BenÃtez has been touted around the stately homes of Europe; Juventus, Real Madrid, etc. Torres is the subject of avaricious glances from Manchester City and Chelsea. The infatuation with the Europa League and the promise of a 'major trophy’ is a smokescreen that cannot disguise the fact that the BenÃtez ship is taking on too much water that no amount of wins over relegated clubs can disguise. Gerrard will always be a hero in Liverpool. Istanbul and the subsequent rejection of Abramovich reinforced the special relationship between player and fan. The absence on his CV of a championship medal is the price he paid for loyalty. Gerrard ran into United during an unprecedented period of plunder at Old Trafford, reprising in reverse the experience of his predecessor in the England boiler room, Bryan Robson, whose career crashed against the Liverpool rock two decades ago. Robson turned down Barcelona in 1983 and hung on for a championship medal 10 years later. Gerrard can’t wait that long. It’s time for Stevie G to bail out. Go find a real job. grungy-gonads 54
Even if they try 100%, I would bet on Chelsea beating Liverpool. I'm going into it thinking that the title is Chelseas, so hopefully that might jinx things again. (Such power I have over these things )

ShinyDiscoBall 2
A draw between City and Villa, along with any points dropped by Tottenham would leave Liverpool fired up, knowing they have a great chance. If both games ended in a draw, then a Liverpool win would take them into 4th on Sunday. These are fachts.
