BillTheBinMan 0
Everyone visiting Japan notices the billions of vending machines all over the place - often 5 or 6 lined up together. I bet people living there get used to it. I was wondering about the amount of energy that must be used up lighting (heating) the things up at night. I recall having to almost look away from some they were so unbelievably brightly lit. Even if they want them lit up at night, is there really any need for them to be so well lit? I'm surprised in these more energy efficient/conscious times this doesn't seem to have changed (when I was there anyway).
muikabochi 208
I have thought that to. There's just so many of the damn things. I often go for bike rides in the evening around where I live. Lots of it is really rural with hardly any cars passing me and almost never anyone walking. Yet still there are some places with these vending machines lighthing the place up. It seems such an waste. bobby12 0
They dont have light pollution laws here like in the west, thats why you can see convenience stores and supermarkets from 20kms away in the inaka.
Tubby Beaver 209
thats so all the bumpkins can see their way to get their one-cup's and non-porno porno mags!!
indosnm 0
I wish we had some beer, chu hai and instant ramen machines round here!
veronica 2
There's some new porno DVD vending machines on the main road near where I live. Delightful!
HelperElfMissy 42
Porno in a vending machine ....bwahahahahaha We often joke around that you can anything you need in a vendy in Japan....now that joke is either not so/or even more so funny.. Porno from a Vendy!
bobby12 0
I can imagine them going one better than that, though it would involve locking up an illegal immigrant in a machine all night!
Jynxx 4
ONE NUCLEAR POWER PLANT is what it takes to power all the vending machines in Tokyo. What do you think about that? Want to talk about going easy on fossil fuel? Ladies, please stop using lipstick.. it's pretty disgusting smearing red shite on your lips so to make association with your vagina. HelperElfMissy 42
What? OMG Jynxx - that is pretty disgusting.
Jynxx 4
Are we talking about the vending machine or the sex bit... Yes, Ma'bear.. but I know that a lot of girls are aware of the fact that " Lips sticks are to entice sex, what other reason is there? " quoting the words from some of the Japanese young ladies whom I have spoken since the late 70's. But then you have to be pretty blind or numbed if you cannot see the connotation with sex in most advertising or product design out there... One of the classic example is the old Coke bottle. Subliminal message or shapes associated to sexual organs - lips included.... Kellog's special k...how obvious is that ad. So, you see how disgusting it can be seen to be walking around with lip stick ? Face painting has symbolic power and I don't have to tell you further, do I?
Tubby Beaver 209
whats wrong with girls using a bit of lippy?? even if it is a symbolic gesture of their sexuality?!! After all when we get to to the bare bones of it that is the whole point of life....to be successful in procreation ensuring that YOUR genes are passed to the next generation in continuation of the species. Just because we walk upright and wear clothes makes us no less of an animal at heart, we just use tools to show off our sexuality as opposed to those given to us by nature
cheeseman 1
I have never seen a vending machine selling cheese.
BillTheBinMan 0
Interesting. So there's no move to turn off the lights or at least make them less bright?
thursday 1
I find it increasingly difficult to find beer vending machines at the road side. They have been removed. So too the panty vending machines.

Tubby Beaver 209
what I find mental is that the beer ones get switched off at 11.30pm!! eh?!! So its fine to have them on when possible under age drinkers are up and about but not ok when the likely customers are gonna be adults??!! Crazy! Mind you the Combini is just down the road from me so its not an issue....just thought it was weird. Never seen the panty ones though, apparently Shinjuku has a few of them left
bobby12 0
Business Idea: Panty vending machine in red light district of London, Amsterdam etc. Flavours: Chinese British American Russian Old Fat If it was legal, it would make millions!
