NIK22 0
Hi there Can someone tell me how long it should take to drive from the station in Yuzawa to Naeba? About 40 minutes? Thanks
muikabochi 208
In clear conditions, you can probably do it in 20 minutes but usually takes a bit longer than that and of course more if conditions are bad. I think the bus allows 35 minutes on the timetable.
SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan#Andrew 6 Posted February 4, 2009 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted February 4, 2009 I was there last month actually and had a clear road all the way back. That, going fast and taking a few sneaky shortcuts in the Kandatsu area and it was done in just 15 minutes. Usually I'd say about 25 minutes.
NIK22 0
OK thanks for that!
big-will 7
What are the shortcuts by the way?
SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan#Andrew 6 Posted February 4, 2009 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted February 4, 2009 Turn left out of the West exit of the station and instead of turning to get to Route 17, go straight on and past NASPA. That cuts out a big detour around Route 17. You'll soon turn left onto Route 17 and then go about another 500m and you'll see a small road going off to the right. Use that and it cuts out another chunk of Route 17. Using those roads, you can get to Mitsumata in just over 5 minutes. It's much faster.

big-will 7
Good to know that thanks.
muikabochi 208
If you are coming off the Yuzawa IC and turning left onto Route 17, you can still take advantage of that 2nd short cut.
mina2 6
I usually go via Naeba from Gunma but sometimes have to go that way. Didn't know about that 2nd short cut but I think I know the road you mean.
NIK22 0
I had a look on a map and found those short cuts. Cheers.
NIK22 0
And found them when I was there. It really shortens the journey! Snow was miserable when we were there unfortunately (was there for a meeting and hoping to have a day out on the slopes but it was raining!)
Tubby Beaver 209
Is the bus to Naeba the same one that services Mitsumata and Tashiro?
RobBright 35
Yep - should be 300 yen from the outside the seven/11 omiyage shop on the West Exit side.
Tubby Beaver 209
cool. I'm gonna head up to yuzawa on saturday regardless of the weather on that cheapo shink ticket that you found
yoroshiku onegai shimasu 2
Where will you be playing, Kagura?
muikabochi 208
Definitely the best bet I'd say.
Tubby Beaver 209
I went to Naeba, been to Kagura a lot and was looking for a bit of a change. Wish i went to kagura though, snow was crap. Up top it was icy and scraped and down low it was wet cement/sugar. i still had fun, on the "bad day on the mountain is still a good day" principle. But I finished up early, about 2pm, and headed to the onsen. Caught the earlier Shink home and went out for some beer and food

I have always found the buses in the bus bay to be more consistent and timed better for the shinkansen than the bus stop outside the omiyage/combini.
Tubby Beaver 209
The omiyage bus is slightly cheaper, but only runs 1 an hour up to Kagura. The east exit bus is more regular, every 20 mins or so.
grungy-gonads 54
which route does it take? I presume down the main road to the main junction (near the hospital/7-11) onto Route 17?
Tubby Beaver 209
They both actually go the same way once you get onto the main road.
