Rag-Doll 0
God, this is going to sound like one of those endless niseko questions, but anyway...I see quite a bit about people grouping Niseko and Furano together. How long does it take to drive from Niseko to Furano or Kiroro, for that matter? Is it worth a day trip?
Mike Pow 52
Niseko & Furano = too far for a day trip. Approx 3-4 hrs each way. Niseko & Kiroro = 1hr door to door. Do it. Sapporo Kokusai the same.
Rag-Doll 0
Thanks Mike, that is what I suspected looking at the map.
HelperElfMissy 42
Friends did the drive to Furano for a day trip - they also found it to be WAY to far.
lin 0
Those route roads go on and on and on...
Ezorisu 0
Yep. Furano/Sahoro/Tomamu too far for a realistic day trip from Niseko.
Rag-Doll 0
Thanks - no real intention of heading to furano just curious that it seems to be offered up/regarded as being something of an alternative to Niseko for investments and destination and stuff. Even to the extent of being pushed by some of the same people from Niseko. That struck me as being odd, given that it looks to be miles from Niseko.
thursday 1
2-base holiday. 1 week N, 1 week F. Of course operator takes care of all the transport needs as well.
Mike Pow 52
Exactly. And not everyone who visits Hokkaido wants to (or is able to) ski/ride off groomed terrain. Furano has better pisted terrain and grooming than Niseko area.

big-will 7
Is it worth a visit?
Mike Pow 52
Haven't been, because of it's stricter off-groomed policy. Friends who have enjoyed it.
journey_man 0
I didn't go this year, but I have heard from a few people that the off piste policy in Furano has been relaxed somewhat. If you have wheels I would consider using Asahikawa as your second base. This gives you daytrip access to Furano, Tomamo (I think, never been), Kamui, Asahidake and Kurodake to name the main ones. kaiser soce 0
I reckon Tomamu is getting a bit far for a day trip, possible but its alot of driving.
