As a place to ride/ski Naeba is pretty crap really. It only rates well because it is probably the best hotel/resort complex within a short shink ride from TY, it doesn't have a lot of competition in this category. It therefore gets a lot of beginner/low level day trippers or weekenders, with the consequential crowds standing around on the piste.

For anyone with a bit of experience Niseko, Hakks, Nozawa, Shiga et al are in a different league. A long weekend at any of these places, even for a beginner, will be a lot more rewarding.

There is the link to Kagura, but going to Naeba to ski Kagura isn't the best way of doing things, IMHO.

This kind of question is destined to head to the dread flame war. Please, everyone, don't go there!

While I agree about the long weekend at the other places, I think people are being too harsh on Naeba.

Go to Naeba on a weekday and there are few people there and there is a decent selection of slopes to choose from. Round the middle part and top (if those slopes are open) there is challenge on offer. Of course the Dragondola also can take you over to Tashiro if you want as well.

(As for the hotel - it is not good, think 80's).
