moose55 0
I have 5 children who is dying to play in the snow as they have never experienced it. I will be in Tokyo from 17 to 27 December and would like to know which of the snow resorts that will surely have snow by the 20th of December. I am looking at Shirakaba, Chino City, Nagano. If anyone know where is the best place that I can take my children to enjoy snow, please let me know. Not thinking of Hokkaido at all due to high expense. Cheers!
Markie 0
Karuizawa is a small resort which is less than 1 hour from Tokyo by bullet train and the resort is right outside the train station. They will DEFINITELY have snow because even if it doesn't fall from the sky, they will make artificial snow. You can take the train there in the morning let them play for a few hours, have lunch and return to Tokyo later in the day.
me jane 0
Karuizawa has a sleding area for children to play too. Actually I think most resorts do, but for a day trip from Tokyo it should suit your needs. You can get a pack from the train station travel office (JR View Plaza) which includes a return train ticket and a 4-hour lift pass. Here is a link to the information on this site. The resort page link is at the bottom of the info. http://www.snowjapan.com/e/resorts/resortdetail.php?resid=
skidaisuki 0
If we are all lucky, then you'll have plenty of choice of places with snow by the time you get here. December 2005 was like that. Karuizawa's a good place to go for shopping and eating out, but if you have other choices then I wouldn't recommend it - too low and crowded.
thursday 1
kids play in snow, not skiing or boarding?
moose55 0
Thank you for the recommendation. We are also planning to stay in a resort at nagano and planning to learn skiing too. But if there is no snow then we have to make do with the facilities around there. Just wondering if Shirakaba, Nagano is a good place to go. Cheers All!
me jane 0
Sorry, I don't know anything about Shirakaba. I don't think it's that well known. Why do you want to go there? From reading the reviews it doesn't look like anything special. I don't think it is worth going there for a day from Tokyo because there are nearer places which would be just as good. Do you have friends there or something? If you want to go to Nagano, there are better places. Have a look at all the resort information on this site. http://www.snowjapan.com/e/resorts/resortdetail.php?resid=77 Reviews of the above http://www.snowjapan.com/e/voice/readrer...efecture=Nagano http://www.snowjapan.com/e/resorts/resortdetail.php?resid=78 No reviews http://www.snowjapan.com/e/resorts/resortdetail.php?resid=79 Reviews of the above http://www.snowjapan.com/e/voice/readrereview3.php?resortName=Shirakaba%20Resort&prefecture=Nagano http://www.snowjapan.com/e/resorts/resortdetail.php?resid=80 Reviews of the above http://www.snowjapan.com/e/voice/readrer...efecture=Nagano
muikabochi 208
And now we can see a video of some fun @ Karuizawa
thursday 1
maybe that wasn't the best video for recommending Karuizawa
Oyuki kigan 0
also, the snow at karuizawa is fake. Thats kinda like taking someone who has never seen the ocean before to an indoor beach. real snow is quite different than man-made snow. And as with most things, the natural stuff is beyond compare. Hakuba is not guaranteed to have snow, but is very likely. I say make the reservations as late as possible, and hold out for nagano/nozawa onsen/Shiga Kogen of you can. thursday 1
I'm actually wondering, how, these days you manage to have 5 kids. I am in awe.
moose55 0
Not too difficult actually, having 5 kids is better than 1, they kind of like to be together and I have more time with my hubby going movies and gym every weekend. Weekdays, I'll be too buzy minding the last 2, the 3 big ones dont like me being around them too much. Even the last 2 dont like to tag along when I go out. So there again, have more kids and enjoy life. Oh yes! need alot of money to make the world go round for them. Kids dont come cheap nowadays. Holidays would be a killer, so we only go one holiday in 2 years. The last was 1995 10days New Zealand, its was awesome, sky diving was incredible and white water rafting amazing. So now Japan, looking forward to lots of snow. Cheers!
