Pearl's mother was Italian and her father was Sicilian. She had just come out from a session of chemotherapy, had enough pills in her to rattle, and enough pins in her legs to set off the metal detectors. We took a holiday together in Italy. We spent a week walking in ancient Rome (above). That was her last visit to her spiritual home.

Pearl went through terrible times, but never lost the spirit and infectious giggle of a teenage girl. Despite her health problems, she had the strength to support me through bad times. We both knew this was coming, but I'm sorely greiving right now.

Sorry to here that, Soub. I can't imagine what it would be like to deal with cancer. Maybe some of us can draw strength from her to get through our own problems--which are so insignificant in comparison.
