lin 0
Can anyone tell me what exactly is "otaku", and is anyone here a "....-otaku"? thanks lin
viv&kev 0
Isn't it the same kind of meaning as "--kichigai" (crazy about --), but with more of a dorky/nerdy nuance?
Ocean11 0
Have a look at the thread about Star Wars. Those in favour probably still have well-worn posable Chubaka figures in their valises and slightly bent plastic light sabers with corroded batteries in their closets. Otaku, the lot of 'em. You can be kichigai without being creepy, but all otaku are a bit freaky. Hashimoto Seiko got called an 'olimupikku otaku' for having been and got so many medals. Fitting I think. rach 1
Common otaku...Computer otaku, Amime otaku, basically real geeky obsessive types. Is that not right?
oo 1
Another famous otaku - ge-mu (videogames)

7-11 2
Can you be a ski-otaku or board-otaku, or doesnt that fit?
Ocean11 0
That synchronized skiing lark comes pretty close to otaku behaviour. "Now listen closely. On this run we're going to do a rather slower bottom jink, with three crossovers, and feign complete ignorance of the presence of others on the slope!" (in chorus) "Yes, senpai!" lin 0
Thanks for that folks. I think I might have got the jist of that now.
oo 1
With snowboarding being so fashionable, and maybe skiing?! , I don't think it can really fit into the "otaku" area. It's just not geeky enough. If anyone knows any different, please correct me.
scouser 4
Board-otaku doesn't sound right now does it? Board-kichigai sounds much more like it.
