Not sure if I'll be much help here, but I know what you mean. I think the haze is a combination of moisture and dust in the air. It's tough to predict when the mts will look "crisp", but I find that early mornings, or after a typhoon tend to clear the air. Season-wise, autumn seems to have good conditions as well. Good luck with the picts

Got an update yet fattwins? New pics? Buddy of mine was up that way yesterday. Said he skiied a north facing slope near Maruyama (near Happone?). Not so familiar with that area but he sent me a pict from his keitai to mine - needless to say the (pict)quality was crap but it was still a sweet looking photo. Was almost tempted to load up the car and drive out that way.

Part 3 And then back to the hut for a short break followed by one more short run in the area... Capping off the day with fine sunset... Day 3: We awoke on the 3rd day with some questionable looking weather... And so decided to head back home... It was a fairly uneventful trip down... But well worth the effort... O-wa-ri

Where: Mt. Kita no Mata (Toyama/Gifu) When: March 27th - 29th, 2009 Why: Because it snowed - a lot What a difference a week makes. Last weekend it was looking like this... And then this weekend... So when blessed with the second coming of winter there is but one thing to do - enjoy. And so began the journey... With about 40cm on new fallen snow it was slow going... But we eventually reached the hinan goya at about 4pm... For most of the day the weather was gray and gloomy... But just before sunset we were treated

Having done no research as well, I'm going to guess the skiiing is over in the Ishikawa areas. Most close shop after the last 3 day weekend in March, which would have been last weekend. I'm also guessing you were looking out at Hakusan which will have snow on it till June and July. Anyway, enjoy Kanazawa - it's a great little city.
