  1. oh so CUTE!!! Congrats to the entire 'Family in Japan'
  2. now there is an idea.I have never been but IT guy at cubs school (who takes the prep ski trip in Oz each year) spends every Dec/Jan in Innsbruck. Exactly that reason - he is a ski nut....Mrs is a non skier but loves the Alpine lifestyle. Must be OK for the Mrs if they go back every year.
  3. 100% Zermatt. Lift access and walking trails to practically everywhere a skier can access. Ability to meet on the mountain at any number of places for a meal/drink, and to sit in the glorious sun drinking in the view as your skiing mate whizzes past. Ski up bars are the SHIZZ! Village of good size with a vast array of shopping, museum, ice skating... Sledding able to be done on dedicated sled piste off the Gornegrat rail. Grindelwald/Jungfrau region. This could potentially be even better. I loved the beautiful quaint village of Grindelwald, loads of shops. Sport center with p
  4. Idiots. He can't very well remove one butt cheek and send it back 3 rows. On the flight over at least he would've been able to ask the centre seat holder to take the aisle instead.
  5. We often make a decision one or two weeks before and just go. But have found it difficult to do that if the destination is Niseko. Anywhere in peak period (and it is usually Christmas New Year that we do this spontaneous thing) is difficult to get accomodation to suit your requirements. Flights then accomodation in most cases yes, but I would recommend scoping accomodation FIRST. After realizing Niseko was an impossibility last Christmas we booked flights into Geneva. Lots of resorts from there...we are not fussy..just needed a boardercross track and park for the small one to train on.
  6. I think the idea is to mix it up. Stand for some, sit for some. I know a few people who use a Fitball as an office chair, as it continues to activate muscles and you can fidget and bounce around on it a bit which lessens fatigue of totally sedentary muscles.
  7. Oh Mick I am sure you will find that attire perfect for waxing your board in the Tokyo warmth!
  8. Wax your board/skis. It always gets me excited packing my board bag in preparation for heading in the direction of snow. In fact I have left the boys new boards on display in the lounge - makes me smile every time I walk past.
  9. Does Papabear know about this, Mamabear? HE ORGANIZED it It's convoluted. Young boy, mother passed away, father on a contract until end of next Olympics in China, a kid alone looking for opportunity. We are very close friends with our sons coach, who is the boys fathers close friend. We've met the father a few times. Age difference between #3 son and 'new son' is just 6 months and they will train and play together. Originally a 3 month thing. Looks like it will be a lot longer I was actually worried he was gonna kick my ass at training. I've been so sick and really on
  10. Good on you teikietsulover. Nothing like attacking what you want with passion. Over the past two years I have taken the youngest 3 of my sons with me to my cardio kickboxing session (eldest is never going to come - allergic to effort). They've all refused to go back after stopping early, stepping back on bag holding and having the kind of DOMS you described afterwards. I have a new 'son' - a Spanish 17yr old living with me now, and he was lamenting the break in Water Polo training at the moment. "I want to train. I want to train.". Ok...want to come with me? It's better than noth
  11. No...cruel is when your husband pisses himself laughing at you groaning while your eyes roll back in your head in pain after sneezing with torn intercostals! Welcome to my world.
  12. ...or is it like being on a pirate ship. Drinking and boy stuff, and girls are just bad luck??
  13. I'm sorry. Can't help it. I know exactly what you are talking about. It will get better....but it's gonna get worse before it gets better. 3rd day DOMS is nasteeeeeee!
  14. So are you suggesting a female skier or boarder looking for Mr Right (or even maybe Mr RightNOW) would do well going to Niseko
  15. Saucy! I was going to suggest Germany instead of Spain for Sausage....but I like your answer better!
  16. Phwoar...they really must be at the thin pointy left hand end of the bell curve!
  17. Almost missed the ? White ? Tattoo on his forehead because of all the other stuff going on there!
  18. I would to think that people REALLY are that dumb. But they can't be.... Surely....
  19. But John-San ...this thread is all about the cost of living in NISEKO, not Hakuba.
  20. I've heard that about food from several people. The cost of living in Australia sounds savage. No it about the same over all. The Meat (Beef, Chook,Lamb), veg and fruit are way cheaper then Japan. I picked up a lovely loin of Scotch Fillet today for Y1000 kg were in Japan it would be Y1000 for 100gm. Where in Japan other daily item are cheaper. So it kind of work out thje same. I do the shopping for the hotel while in Hakuba and I do the shopping at home in Aussie. But I am a shopper and I do source the best prices every time I go shopping. So you can be lazy and top price or be studi
  21. My personal trainer suggested his fave breakfast to me...I haven't tried it yet. I tend to have 2 eggs + 1 tablespoon of MCT oil or EV Coconut Oil scrambled, no toast. His recipe is 2 eggs + 1 banana blended in thermomix (can use any blender) then cooked like a pancake or omelette in a frypan lubricated with a decent amount of EV Coconut oil. The boys love breakfast egg and bacon cups. Grease muffin pan with EV Coconut oil or EVOO, lay in strips of bacon to create a 'nest', crack in one egg, sprinkle with a little cheese and bake.
  22. Some of the Euro resorts have glacier skiing so can go all year round greatplaces, but they are on the same season as Japan, so their best times are January to April also. Also remember that when you are down to Glacier skiing that the run length is much shorter.
  23. Lovely and sunny today, no cold at all. In fact a BEAUTIFUL day. Think I might even be a bit sunburnt.
