Snow in Japan
eskimobasecamp replied to jeanniel's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
yeh i'm not going to ski a big shute (next year though baby) - but wanna hike with everyone and do whatever everyone else is doing. will have a beacon by the end of today anyway, thanks. got the other stuff. waiting for next years skis, to put skins and touring bindings on. so just going to snowshoe with the public enemys this spring. i don't think i'm any more of a liability in the backcountry than anyone else who is planning to go out into the bc this weekend... i do however, get treated differently all the time, cause i'm a chick... which is boring me... and you know i can do it, and w -

yo boys, i'm up for it!!!!!!!!! emm anyone got any gear i can borrow... dont have trekkers or skins... don't think i can snowshoe it at the pace you are talking about. if it the weather is sweet, seriously i wanna go. -
04/05 season i skied on the streetracer 8's (infact i'm selling them if anyone wants to make me an offer, they are in perfect condition) - had a great season on them, if high speed on-piste carving is what you are into. i would agree with FT, that they don't like straight lines at speed and are definitely too narrow underfoot to ski the pow - but if you wanna practise on-piste technique and various turns - they would be perfect, go for it! if you think you want to hit more terrain that just on-piste, go for an all mountain ski. good luck! PM me if you want some more info.

Helli II retails at about 56,000 yen i think, Fusion is about 40,000 yen. Not the cheapest stuff, but totally amazing stuff. There are haglofs branches in Setagaya and Harajuku in Tokyo, and probably other places, and also H + Hakuba in Hakuba sells Haglofs. I dont know if the Japanese website has prices? Maybe not, but if you can get your hands on a catalogue, it has a pricelist.

Yehhh agreed, HAGLOFS stuff is the shit. The jacked FT is talking about (Fusion jacket) is totally waterproof, gore-tex, really really light shell, looks really really sweet too. I use the HAGLOFS Helli II jacket, slightly more expensive than the Fusion shell, has inner mesh lining, but still extremely light. Check out the website - www.haglofs.se - it's Swedish stuff... the Scandies know what they are doing too, i think it's gets quite cold there sometimes?
