  4. i second that about the pound, the yen is really weak against the pound. http://www.currencyuk.co.uk/currency-con...rter_bottom.y=8 in freezin dark scotland for another week, then back to the north alps
  5. "One agent says he will book more people into Niseko this season than the whole of Canada." Actually i think this is an interesting point. The Aussie tourists are coming to Japan instead Canada, for their ski holidays. I met one Canadian lodge owner last weekend, and as soon as I told him I lived in a ski resort in Japan, he brought up this point..... many Canadian ski resorts (all the businesses, lodge owners etc, that are incorporated into that industry) are losing business as Australians fly to Hokkaido and Honshu in search of snow, instead of Canada. If you consider the increasing
  6. yeh, i know, i didn't mean literally a few years... i expect it to last a long time. made use of it this weekend in the lakes.
  7. thanks uhhh well i'll think about it in a few years when this one is done (bought it last winter). and yep the rest of my gear is ultra light thanks. and it all helps. i'm a chick, you are probably stronger than me, a bit of extra weight would make a difference to me, i know this from experience. my bag is super super warm thanks, graded -18C, 800 fill down, it certainly ain't skimpy, it's awesome. certainly doesn't feel like 'ultra light sleeping' to me. it's exactly perfect for my purpose and that's why i chose it. i'm not bivying, but if i wanted something waterproof i'd take a cover
  8. scotland just now. back in j land very very soon. when does your christmas hokkaido trip commence?!
  9. haha, that all depends how shit you are at lugging gear around mountains... the super light thing was an important factor for me, and i was stoked when i hiked out of tateyama this year with all my gear in good time. the year before that i had heavier stuff, and made AK carry my stuff haha. no need to do that anymore. sorry AK, i know you love it.
  10. Yeh I would probably agree with that, North Face isn't the best stuff out there - I think they charge a lot of money and don't make stuff as good as they should for that $$$$. I don't think i'd buy a North Face bag, after trying and testing one.... doesn't really compare to the Mountain Hardwear one, which although expensive, I would fully reccommend as a kick ass super light winter bag. Yep, looking forward to the weekend, hope it doesn't rain. Good luck finding a nice bag. The Montbell Downhugger is also really good.
  11. yo sheepshot, you back over this winter???! how's it going mate? forecast is looking like pow. get over here.

  14. another awesome day out riding, another 18km of fun. glentress kicks some serious ass, i found it much more technical than mabie... really had to pick lines and commit. mabie seemed more x-country, up and down, up and down. glentress was a big climb to the top, then super fun downhilling the whole way to the bottom, with lots of drop offs, berms, technical rocky sections, table jumps. the HUB was awesome too. for glentress
  15. photo stop pit stop dude bob & me bob puncture!
  16. climb done, time to ride trail another nice view
  17. so i went to glentress to check out the awesome brownies and flapjacks (actually i had caramel shortbread mmm) at the weekend, and here's what happened... danny & bob nice view on the climb danny & bob on the fire road looking back down to the fire road climbing
  18. thought so... yeh, but worth a mention incase, it was fun last year.
  19. it's a world away from europe, in so many ways... but that's why you are checking out japan right? for the whole experience? dude listen, i live in hakuba, the nightlife is awesome. usually on the weekend there are several parties going on in different locations across town with different djs (you'll see flyers around town), it's more than possible to party until 7am and there's also plenty of bars. (to name a few - tracks, 902, master braster, rockbridge, q' tips, mominoki, sauce, mangetsudo, naughtys in tsugaike, kokusai lodge, the whitehorse...) during the week, the bars are
