  1. this weekend is a no-go for me--too much catching up on stuff for me nengajyo, cleaning, phone calls home for the holidays, etc. i'll get the goods on new year's fief, great picture. backtracking his tracks, looks like he's got turns down!
  2. broke my scaphoid bone four years ago. now i use wrist protectors. don't know about level, but i think burton, like most of their stuff, is overpriced. i use a brand callled Seirus. these gloves are kind of like rollerblade wrist protectors inside a winter glove
  3. also Bruce Tremper. "Staying Alive in Avalanche Terrain" by the same publisher. indispensible info in this book, nicknamed the bible of avie books. reading it now for review and more learning
  4. cheers SJ4 hopefully, the genki-gou like come in handy like Adam-gou
  5. it's a bunch of clips someone chopped and pasted together... the huge wet slide is travis rice in First Descent, recognize other clips from board videos but forgot the names
  6. yes, eBc, it's offical, no banff film festival this year i was in patagonia the other day, just bought a new climbing harness and patagonia store, the sponsor of banff film fest, was close by. they confirmed it. oh well. but, here's another to add to this year's list: Respect The Movie quick time trailer
  7. poking around you tube, i found some dude's compliation edit of a bunch of avies; i'm reading Bruce Tremper now and all these sick lines in the bc don't look so sick anymore --they are humbling and deserve respect still, it's a video
  8. definitely. for bc, you must have the right equipments/partner(s). but even on the courses there, it's sweet terrain
  9. thursday. it's 30 mins. east of asahikawa in central hokkaido. would love to go up there sometime this year
  10. sweet! what aspect is that? are you going to hit those chutes skiers left of that avie this season/sometime? amazing pics
  11. i'd luv 2 5 2 hakuba this weekend, but have work oh well, maybe next weekend
  12. dogg: the outfits i know of run out of t-town or osaka, and charge astronomical rates. besides, earning your turns is part of the passion, for me at least. suggestion: pick up the latest issue of hiking mags like 岳人 and flip through it; tons of ads of touring companies, prolly japanese only. word of caution: if your japanese isn't up to par, they might not want to take someone on for group safety reasons. but as long as you can explain yourself it shouldn't be a problem. t-boy, the advanced course is definitely worth it. you get more chances to get in the snow and look around at the
  13. Quote: Originally posted by sava: How do you lose all your fingers? :| i'm from Illinois and went to h.s. w/ someone who kind of looks like eddie willis (well, not really), Loni. Loni didn't have a right forearm. it was just kind of a stub. some say he was born that way, some say he got electrocuted messing around on the dread third rail of the elevated train tracks in Chicago (live current), some say he lost it when he was initiated into his gang, some say he was shot. he had a really hot sister. thanks for the trip down memory lane, sava.
  14. i still say the ad is fine downtown is defined as "to or in the main business district of a city" (American Heritage) and "in or to the central part of a city" (Cambridge). whether you consider Hakuba even a city is entirely something else. in either Brit or Am. English, dowtown is where the action is at. depending on how you want to bastardize the meaning of the definition, you could consider Echoland with its 2 clubs, (what did FT say, 6? bars,?) 3 new pensions, perhaps more pensions--j-pensions, i mean--, a gym, and the heart of the shuttle route, the main business district in te
  15. haven't they had the same tag line in their ads for years? "downtown hakuba" really, it's irrelevant, tho, IMO, b/c you need a city in order to have a downtown to it. hakuba is not a city
  16. you can take heli rides in the spring at certain resorts for the CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP :sarcastic smile: price of 9,000 per person per hike (usually 10 mins in the heli to a standard route. very few snowmobiling to the bc in honshu still. why not earn your turns mate? there are plenty of japanese outfits, but evergreen is the best english one.
  17. will be in hakuba from the evening of the 28th to the 8th of jan. can't wait !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. the "adventure night" by JAN a good primer for those who haven't taken an avie awareness course; if you have taken a course, this was a good review and good reminder as we head into winter. pictures and video clips as well to bring to life what the lecture is about. time for Q&A. well organized.
  19. no worries SJ5 i think my browser session had ended before i posted (and had unchecked that box when signing in) that time.
  20. you can always tell when season is about to get going 'cause FT and EBC start arguing more and more
