  1. sorry i still havent had a chance to prepare them... soon! meanwhile, take a look at "richards report" - some great photos. looks like yesterday & today wouldve been great fun, but it wasnt a big enough dump to justify "chuckin a sickie" - 40cm+ & i wouldve been there in a shot! http://www.ciau.com.au/snow/rrr.asp
  2. 2pints, it was 15 in the village, maybe around 10 at the top. cold change has just hit - rained heaps overnight, but is snowing now apparnently. im considering a sickie - could be last chance for freshies for this season! very true Toque.
  3. it was very spring-like on the weekend @ thredbo. "ski between the flags" is the phrase we use - it was so warm, it was like a day at the beach. the snow was softened nicely by the sun, & we scored plenty of "ice-cream" freshies in the golf course bowl. pretty unusual for late august though - it felt more like late september. still, i had plenty of fun in the sun with good mates, & i practiced my spins & fakie riding. it was a reminder that it doesnt have to be a powder day to have fun on a snowboard. pics to follow.
  4. season officially ends 4th of october. has been known to go longer by a week or 2, but not very often. i will probably get 2-3 more weekends in with a bit of luck
  5. thredbo huh? awesome mountain on a powder day... pity i've only caught 1 this season, & that was a measly 10cm... oh well, the worst day snowboarding is better than any day not snowboarding, as they say im going this weekend, looks like it'll be fine & sunny - perfect for a jib-fest
  6. went on my 2nd trip weekend before last. was ok, but wasnt great... we were 3 days after that big dump. scored 1 nice freshie run in a secret spot outside the bounary, but it was such a warm day that it all went crusty or mushy in the afternoon... oh well, still had fun - better than not snowboarding at all going again this weekend, but no chance of freshies - a huge high is moving in for the week - good for snowmaking though. pics from last weekend (13-14th of august). sorry, no action pics... good spot, but the sun wrecked it amusing helmet
  7. its going off!! http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117,16221931-401,00.html http://www.ciau.com.au/snow/rrr.asp
  8. which one NPM? a system with a lot of potential just have us buckets of rain followed by 15cm of snow... bit of a shame really... there's some snow-showers expected from sunday-thursday, then more the following weekend, so that shoud help, but we could really do with a big dump.. im going to the hills for the next 3 weekends, so hopefully the long-range forecasts will come good - we are into peak season now, so i really hope so!
  9. department store? hehe, what r u on about fatty - you think i want to partake in the japanese national passtime? actually im deliberatly not spending any time in tokyo on this next trip, so my wife & mother-in-law cant go shopping! (i never thought i'd be taking the MIL on a snowboarding holiday... but she'll be babysitting my daughter - when she's not shreddin' in the terrain park... )
  10. oic - best i skip it then - quite keen to avoid getting a car. cheers anyway though fatty
  11. http://www.more-resort.com/ ? whats it like? what is their funny booking system? & cheers gamera
  12. whats more resort? thanks for the gamera tip - will chase that up.
  13. sorry, havent edited it yet. its not very good... first weekend of the season, the lads werent being very brave at all... stay tuned for a better vid later in the season - meanwhile, here's a couple of nice ones from last season. the black forest stanleys
  14. a few more on this thread from ski.com.au http://forum.ski.com.au/ultimate/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=11;t=014350;p=1 i also shot a bunch of video with my ixus 40 - finally got to use the 60fps mode at the snow - pretty sweet results, although we didnt quite capture the quality of snow-porn we'd like. i'll post the vid when i finish editing it a little.

Sunday was amongst my best ever days at Thredbo - uncrowded & freshies all day!
  16. hi all, i've started doing some research into accom in hakuba for feb 2006. my group will include my wife, baby (will be 1 y.o.) & mother-in-law, as well as 2-3 couples... we are quite keen on finding some decent self-contained apartments, with 2 bedrooms in each, & fairly central in hakuba (ie. walking distance to shops & restaurants, good access to shuttle buses & resorts). so far, i havent seen much other than some very small cabins & a lot of hotels... & the epoch cabins look nice but far too expensive & only 1 bedroom... surely there are some affordab
  17. 65cm at Thredbo overnight on friday! biggest overnight dump in Oz since 1987 apparently! then another 20cm on saturday! the other resorts did well too. but, im very sorry to say i missed it.. on wednesday, I stacked my bike & hit a wall, while avoiding an IDIOT in a huge 4wd who didnt bother indicating!! What terrible timing!! Oh well... at least I'm only bruised & nothings broken, so hopefully I'll be recovered soon & able to go this weekend, as more snow is on the way! theres not many good pics around... i guess everyone was too busy enjoying it... here's one
  18. its pretty average so far... the average base went up to a metre 2 weeks ago, with snow falling to 800m, & it was actually looking quite good, then it warmed up & did quite a lot of raining over the weekend just gone (although it snowed up high), so the average base is back to 80cm, & the lower slopes (1300-1600m) of thredbo are bare (while the other resorts are in slightly better shape, with bases above 1600m) there's a system coming later this week, which will hopefully be cold enough to get some decent snow from, & then with a bit of luck we'll be into the winter cycle.
  19. sorry if this has been said, as i merely skimmed this thread, but all the BC types i know in Aus carry their poo out with them in a poo-tube. in fact the only things they leave are footprints & some urine... oh, & some killer lines DIY poo-tube -----> http://www.users.bigpond.com/vertica/Poo-tube.htm
