  1. I was there tonight in flesh and the crowd seemed pretty decent, at least half full, and the cheap seats were all full, some of the more expensive seats were empty, the North end was pretty full. Tickets in the evening are 5000 to about 20000 - thats enough to put of the casual punters. Great evening of athletics especially the long jump, my seat was perfectly placed to see the LJ and the 200m start. The long jump went to the last jump and the crowd were really getting into it as well as the jumpers. I spotted Carl Lewis and Mike Powell in the stands through the binos. Right in the fin

  3. I went this morning, it was great experience to see such top level competition (not counting the Somali woman plodding it in the 200m or the Maldivian getting lapped in the 1500m) You would think you get the best seat in your living room but when you are there you can view so much more, you break the restraints of the television directors current choice and can look anywhere, binoculars are a must. It was interesting to watch things like the British 200m runner who was DQed in a race after a 2nd false start, I watched her walk all the way the back along the dug-out style walkway at the edge
  4. saw that yesterday, its on youtubes most watched list, she will be over on the next boatload of Nova inductees! yeeha!
  5. Australia introduces immigrant test I can see the boys at "Chaser" having field day with this going around and interviewing dumb ockers and threatening to deport them. You an be sure that at least 90% of Australian bogans and no-hopers (all the favorite people of the former SJ poster DB aka Spud) would fail the test. here go some samples found on SMH, Ok Austraylans onboard how many can you get?! 1. In what year did Federation take place? 2. Which day of the year is Australia Day? 3. Who was the first Prime Minister of Australia? 4. What is the first line of Austral
  6. all this talk reminds me of the scene in that great movie 'Full Metal Jacket' Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: How tall are you private? Cowboy: Sir, five foot nine, sir! Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: Five foot nine? I didn't know they stacked shit that high! You tryin' to squeeze an inch in on me somewhere, huh? Cowboy: Sir, no sir! Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: Bullshit. It looks to me like the best part of you ran down the crack of your momma's ass and ended up as a brown stain on the mattress! I think you been cheated! Where in the hell are you from anyway, private? Cowboy: Sir, Texas, sir

  8. any athletics fans here? been watching or trying to watch the abysmal TBS coverage, you know the usual deal crap J-pops music blaring in the background while they interview ex-stars like Carl lewis, ads every 4 mins, dopey "tarento" presenters who know nothing about athletics and did I already metion the music? Aside from that the events have been good so far, A humble American 100m sprinter, nice for a change. NZ got a gold in womans shotput - a 196cm 120kg polynesian lass - just dont ask her to "cook you any eggs"* *notorious scene from the movie 'Once were warriors'
  9. Burj Dubai is halfway done and is going to trump everything currently existing by miles for concept buildings Japan has had a few, the X-seed is the most mind boggling, though they all pretty gob-smacking. Skycity 1000 in Tokyo(1000m) Shimizu Mega city pyramid (2000m) Aeropolis 2001 (2000m and 500 storey) America not be outdone once proposed a Frank Lloyd Wright behemoth called the Illinois - 1700m and 528 storeys)

  12. Alonso is the now the new Schumi of F1: resorting to dirty tricks to win. His attempt to screw Hamilton in qualifying backfired on him though - a five place penalty. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/formula_1/article2199765.ece Hamilton was absolutely livid exchanging angry words with Dennis as he returned to the pits, reportedly saying: “Don’t ever f****** do that to me again!” Dennis replied: “Don’t ever f****** speak to me like that again!” Hamilton delivered a final riposte: “Go f****** swivel!” hehe, the shiny polite image has been broken; Hamilton is developing
  13. my cousins in the USA has it and has invited me to use their slingbox, might take her up during the football season - her husband is a football nut and gets a cable package that includes every game - go the broncos. Problem is whatever the person with the slingbox is watching on their TV is whatever you are watching. Luckily my cousin has two cable receiver units so their slingbox is on the spare one. My friend here in Japan is watching her folks slingbox back in the States, she says its great but her father choices in TV shows is frustrating!

  16. "Out of the Blue" based on the true story of NZ's worst mass murderer: David Gray. A pretty gripping and well acted small budget film. The actor portraying the protaginist put in an especially meritorious performance; you really felt he was the psychotic gun lover that snapped one late spring day in 1990. The old bird they got to play Mrs Dickson was a quintessential Kiwi Nana - any New zealander will smile when you hear her voice.
  17. you know its bad when a resort website is advising people to "pray to the snow gods". "Despite being two-thirds of the way through winter, none of the smaller Canterbury club fields are open and the two main commercial fields, Mount Hutt and Porters Ski Area, are getting by on artificial snow." the smaller club fields are Temple Basin, Craigeburn, Olympus, Broken River.
